Poison Ivy: Thorns by Kody Keplinger and Illustrated by Sara Kipin

 Hey Everyone!

I waited all day today for my mail.  Why?

Because three awesome books were released today! And two of them were expected to come in today! (One I'm waiting on, because I ordered a signed copy, and those always take longer to arrive).

I ended up devouring my first one already...and okay it was a graphic novel, but I was so excited for it, and just couldn't help myself.

Poison Ivy: Thorns Written by the fabulous Kody Keplinger and illustrated by the very talented Sara Kipin!

From Goodreads:

New York Times bestselling author of The DUFF Kody Keplinger and artist Sara Kipin reimagine an iconic DC antihero with a gothic-horror twist.

There's something unusual about Pamela Isley-- the girl who hides behind her bright red hair.  The girl who won't let anyone inside to see what's lurking behind the curtains.  The girl who goes to extreme lengths to care for a few plants. Pamela Isley doesn't trust other people, especially men.  They always want something from her. Something she's not willing to give.

When cute goth girl Alice Oh comes into Pamela's life after an accident at the local park, she makes her feel like pulling back the curtains and letting the sunshine in.  But there are dark secrets deep within the Isley house. Secrets Pamela's father has warned must remain hidden.  Secrets that could turn deadly and destroy the one person who ever cared about Pamela, or as her mom preferred to call her...Ivy.

Will Pamela open herself up to the possibilities of love, or will she forever be transformed by the thorny vines of revenge?

My Thoughts:

I'm a HUGE Kody Keplinger fan! Have been since almost the beginning!  I read The DUFF back in 201, shortly after starting The Romance Bookie, and was instantly obsessed.  I believe I actually reread it almost immediately after finishing it, and have reread it since probably half a dozen times at least, along with Kody's other books!  I have thoroughly enjoyed each one!

When I heard about Poison Ivy: Thorns a couple of weeks ago (because I'm so behind in the book world, and trying to catch up!) I preordered it, along with her last release Lila and Hadley, because I completely missed that one last year 😱 (but I also was a bit preoccupied last year, making a baby, birthing said baby, and you know watching Veronica Mars on Hulu 😉).

My husband and I recently signed up for HBO (pretty soon we might as well switch back to cable with all of these individual streaming services 🙄), and HBO currently has all the Batman movies, including the 80s and 90s ones (not just the Christian Bale and Ben Affleck *Gag* ones).

Anyway we are making our way through them right now.  I loved them as a kid!  The two that always stuck out for me were the Cat Woman one with Michelle Pfeiffer, and the Poison Ivy one with Uma Thurman.  Poison Ivy was such a cool character, so I was excited to read Kody's latest book...

...which by the way is a graphic novel! Illustrated by artist Sara Kipin!

Getting to hear an origin story for Poison Ivy is awesome!

I received Poison Ivy: Thorns around 4pm this afternoon (on release day), started it 8pm and finished it at 9pm!

Loved it!

Overall Rating:

I devoured this one!  It was fun, intriguing, had awesome illustrations, and was easy to follow along to!  It also featured LGBTQ characters, perfect for Pride Month! 🌈🌈 Definitely check this one out!
