The Trip of a Lifetime to New York City!: Day 4 & 5: Shopping in NYC! And Visiting the MET and MOMA!

On to Day 4 & 5 of my trip to New York City!

Day 4:  Saturday March 30th, 2019- Shopping in NYC!

So my husband and I figured that the weekend wouldn't be a great time to do a lot of super touristy things, because we thought it might be super busy with weekenders visiting the city.  So we decided to spend a full day of just shopping in NYC!

We had a little bit the day before with visiting FAO Schwartz and Tiffany's, and seeing the incredible iconic shops such as Chanel, Louis Vuitton, Dior, etc. on 5th Ave.; but we wanted to do some shopping in NYC that was a bit more in our price range, while still being able to take in the sights!

So of course on the list of places to see was:  Macy's!

As some of you may know, the Macy's in NYC isn't just any old Macy's.  It's the World's LARGEST Store!

It also is home to the really awesome wooden escalator!

 My mother-in-law told us all about the famous wooden escalator!  It took us a little bit to find it, because the first couple of floors are regular escalators, because I'm guessing they just couldn't keep up with the maintenance on ELEVEN FLOORS!  But we were really happy to see they still had part of it at least!

We went to Macy's during a cool time, because we hit their annual Flower Show!  Macy's had the most beautiful displays up, and this year's theme was: Journey to Paradisios!  The displays were so beautiful and colorful, and only ran from March 24th-April 7th, perfect for while we were there!

I didn't take many other pictures that day, because I was too busy enjoying all the shopping!  Which lets be honest, I didn't do all that much of, because DANG! things were so expensive! But it was still a lot of fun, and I did splurge a bit and got myself a Michael Kors wallet, and a few tops that I found on Clearance!  It was a good day!

Day 5: Sunday March 31st, 2019- MOMA & The MET!

The following day, my husband and I decided to go to MOMA!  Which is the Museum of  Modern Art!  

I was very much looking forward to going to MOMA because it houses one of my absolute favorite pieces of art:  The Starry Night by Vincent van Gogh.  I was first introduced to this painting in 4th grade when my teacher, at the time, had us make a reproduction of the piece in crayon.  I remember it being a multi-week project, because we did it piece by piece.  It was the only part of the class year I enjoyed, besides reading Island of the Blue Dolphins!

As we were walking through the museum, it was kind of funny, because we figured out almost immediately where the painting was, without looking at the map or even seeing the painting!  It was hidden by a wall that you had to walk around, but surrounding that wall were so many people, that I instantly knew what they were looking at.

I was able to sneak in a picture, thanks to my amazing husband!

MOMA is also home to Monet's Water Lilies...

which has its own room!  Water Lilies was HUGE!!  The picture above doesn't do it justice!

There was also...

Frida Kahlo's Fulang Chang and I.


And this famous painting that I feel like I saw in every single one of my Spanish textbooks in high school...

The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dali

Or as I like to call it...Melted Clocks.  This was a lot smaller than I expected, but just really neat to see in person!

And then we got to see another Vincent van Gogh piece...

Olive Trees.  

MOMA has some of the most amazing pieces of art that I grew up seeing pictures of in textbooks, on the internet, and posters in art galleries, but to see the actual pieces??  Absolutely incredible!  There were other pieces by Andy Warhol, Matisse, Picasso (see below), Jackson Pollack...yes the Jackson Pollock splatter pieces that we used to see everywhere and think to ourselves, "Did a preschooler make this?"...

Maybe I just said that... 🤣

After looking at all the beautiful paintings at MOMA, the day was still young, and so we decided to take a cab over to the MET...that's the beautiful thing about NYC, everything is so close!

The MET

The famous stairs!  Where Blair and Serena ate their lunch in Gossip Girl!  I wanted to eat there so bad, but as you can kind of tell, it was sadly raining a tiny bit that day.  We really can't complain though, because the weather was otherwise great!  The only other day we hit a bit of rain was our last full day!

The Metropolitan Museum of Art...home to not just paintings, and drawings, but some of the world's most beautiful antiquities.  Home to more pieces by Vincent van Gogh and Monet, Rembrandt, Georgia O'Keefe, and so many more.

To be in the same room, as some of these pieces just flabbergasted me!  I was in such awe at times!  

The painting I was looking most forward to see was, Claude Monet's The Water Lily Pond.  I have always loved this painting.  I remember having a tiny notebook with this painting on it, when I was about seven and carrying it around with me everywhere.

Along the way, I found this...

It was on display in the courtyard where there was food and greek sculptures.  It is a stained glass window, as you can probably see, and I just found it to be absolutely stunning!  I love all the colors and details!

This painting was the last thing we hunted down in the HUGE museum that is the MET!  We went from room to room, not able to find it.  But finally, with persistence and not giving up...we made it!

MOMA and the MET was such as fun experience!  It was so incredible being in the same room as some of the most amazing and influential pieces of art in the world!

After a full day of museum walking in NYC, we were starving, so we took a cab back to our hotel, and ended up eating at Tony's di Napoli, which had some yummy Italian food!
