To Be Honest by Maggie Ann Martin

Image
Hey! So last book from my weekend reading binge, for now! This is for the novel I actually read this weekend.  Truly Truly enjoyed this one! My review for To Be Honest by Maggie Ann Martin! From Goodreads: Savannah is dreading being home alone with her overbearing mother after her sister goes off to college.  But if she can just get through senior year, she'll be able to escape to college, too.  What she doesn't count on is that her mother's obsession with weight has only grown deeper since her appearance on an extreme weight-loss show, and now Savvy's mom is pressuring her even harder to be constantly mindful of what she eats. Between her mom's diet-helicoptering, missing her sister, and worrying about her collegiate future, Savvy has enough to worry about.  And then she meets George, the cute new kid at school who has insecurities of his own. As Savvy and George grow closer, they help each other discover how to live in the moment and enjoy the here ...

Lila and Hadley by Kody Keplinger

Image
Hello! I have been a HUGE fan of Kody Keplinger's since almost the beginning.  I read  The DUFF  back at the beginning of 2011, and absolutely fell in love with that book!  I ended up rereading it almost immediately, and have since read it at least half a dozen times.  The movie adaptation also came out really well!   Since then, I have read every Kody Keplinger book ever released.  So I was really surprised when I realized a few weeks back that I had missed one! Last year's release. Lila and Hadley .  Now to be fair I was pregnant when this one came out last year, we were about to move, and preoccupied with getting everything ready for our son to arrive in a few short months, so I was not reading very much, let alone keeping up with what was being released.  But when I found out about Lila and Hadley , I immediately added it to my Amazon cart, and two days later opened that package greedily.   It was added to my June TBR pile and ...

Four Days of You and Me by Miranda Kenneally

Image
Hey! Today's review is for Four Days of You and Me  by Miranda Kenneally! I am enjoying reading so much again, I am just on a roll!   From Goodreads: A new swoon-worthy romance following a couple's love story on the same date over four years. Every May 7, the students at Coffee County High School take a class trip.  And every year, Lulu's relationship with Alex Rouvelis gets a little more complicated.  Freshman year, they went from sworn enemies to more than friends after a close encounter in an escape room.  It's been hard for Lulu to quit Alex ever since. Through breakups, makeups, and dating other people, each year's class trip brings the pair back together and forces them to confront their undeniable connection.  From the science museum to an amusement park, from New York City to London, Lulu learns one thing is for sure: love is the biggest trip of all.  My Thoughts: This one was cute!  I'll be honest, it wasn't my favorite Mi...

A Very Large Expanse of Sea by Tahereh Mafi

Image
Hey! Wow, two books finished in two days!  It's amazing what you can do when you have no internet to distract you!  Seriously! I honestly, thought I was just going to get this one started, and finishing it after YA'll West! From Goodreads: It's 2002, a year after 9/11.  It's an extremely turbulent time politically, but especially so for someone like Shirin, a sixteen-year-old Muslim girl who's tired of being stereotyped. Shirin is never surprised by how horrible people can be.  She's tired of the rude stares, the degrading comments --even the physical violence -- she endures as a result of her race, her religion, and the hijab she wears every day.  So she's built up protective walls and refuses to let anyone close enough to hurt her.  Instead, she drowns her frustrations in music and spends her afternoons break-dancing with her brother. But then she meets Ocean James.  He's the first person in forever who really seems to want to ge...

Hey Everyone! I know I know it's been a while.  The hiatus I put the Romance Bookie on has done me a lot of good; that being said though I have definitely missed reading!! We are less than a few weeks away from The Romance Bookie's FIVE YEAR Blogaversary!!!  I can't believe it's been 5 years! Oh goodness, am I excited about that!! In those five years, I met the most amazing man ever!  We have been together now two and a half years (December 6th), and moved in together this past summer.  To say th...

Now that Michael has broken things off, Mia can barely get out of bed, and her parents are making her see a "therapist." Today I've got my review for Meg Cabot's 8th book in The Princess Diaries  series, Princess on the Brink . From Goodreads : At last, Mia is a junior. An upperclassperson. Free of her responsibilities as student body president. So why is it that everything is going so terribly wrong? What is she doing in Intro to Creative Writing? When she has made it through Algebra and Geometry, why must she be faced with Precalculus? And for the love of all that is Genovian, why has Lilly nominated her for school prez again? All this is nothing compared to the news Michael springs on her, however. On top of all the mathematical strife, her beloved boyfriend is leaving for Japan for a year. Meg-A Readers Week!! Day 4!!! Before I get to my first review of the day, I just want to say... HAPPY MEG CABOT DAY!!!!!!!! Yes, today is seriously Meg Cabot Day!!!! The mayor of Bloomington, Indiana (the hometown of Meg!) pronounced July 31st, Meg Cabot Day!!   Today's first review is of Meg's 6th book in the Princess Diaries Series, Princess in Training ! From Goodreads : Princess for president! Student body president, that is -- nominated by her power-mad best friend, Lilly. This is not how Mia imagined kicking off her sophomore year, but as usual, she has bigger problems to worry about, like Geometry. And now that Mia's one true love, Michael, is uptown at college, what's the point of even getting up for school in the morning? But the last straw is what Lana whispers to her on the lunch line about what college boys expect of their girlfriends. . . . Really, it's almost more than a princess in training can bear! My Thoughts: As most of yo...

Image
Day 3 Part of Meg-A Readers Week!! :) Princess In Pink, #5 in The Princess Diaries Series!! :) From Goodreads : Princess Mia is dreaming about the prom - and contending with a hotel workers' strike - in the fifth, supremely hilarious episode of Meg Cabot's Princess Diaries. This time, Mia's in the pink about the upcoming Albert Einstein H.S. prom, and she's crossing her fingers that Michael will ask her to go. (They're in love, so why wouldn't he ask her, right?) But during Seven Minutes in Heaven at her b-day party, Mia learns that Michael is not the prom-going type. Good grief, what's a princess to do?   To make matters worse, Grandmere has gotten a busboy fired due to a mishap with her pooch, Rommel, at a swanky restaurant, so when all of the city's busboys go on strike, it causes a chain of events that result in Grandmere crashing at Mia's mom's place, her pal Lilly Moscovitz picking up a picket sign, and the prom being brought ...

Golden by Jessi Kirby (ARC)

Image
I can't believe this was my first Jessi Kirby book ever!  Seriously? How is that possible?! Now I know 100% that I need to get my hands on her book In Honor !! I got to meet Jessi last year at Passion and Prose actually, where she was passing out signed post cards for In Honor , and while she would most likely not remember me, I remember her being such a sweetheart! So when I got the opportunity through Edelweiss to read her newest book Golden , I jumped on the chance! :) From  Goodreads : Love, tragedy, and mystery converge in this compelling novel from “an author to watch” (Booklist). Seventeen-year-old Parker Frost has never taken the road less traveled. Valedictorian and quintessential good girl, she’s about to graduate high school without ever having kissed her crush or broken the rules. So when fate drops a clue in her lap—one that might be the key to unraveling a town mystery—she decides to take a chance. Julianna Farnetti and Shane Cruz are remembered as th...

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins Review

Image
Hey Everyone! So I FINALLY read it!! I've been wanting to read this book FOREVER, but have been almost trying not to, just so I don't have to wait too long for Stephanie Perkins next book! NOW, I have to wait until September!!! UGH!!! I read Stephanie Perkins Anna and the French Kiss last year, shortly after I met Stephanie at a signing here in my area! I absolutely fell in love with that book!!  I actually had bought Lola and the Boy Next Door (which is a companion novel to Anna and the French Kiss !) there as well, and had gotten it signed, knowing I would devour that book by the time I got to it! Well I did! From Goodreads :   Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn’t believe in fashion...she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit--more sparkly, more fun, more wild--the better. But even though Lola’s style is outrageous, she’s a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right dow...

The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky review

Image
I've had The Perks of Being a Wallflower sitting on my bookshelf since late last year (when I received it for FREE!! ), and since then I've told myself to pick it up and read it many times, but I just haven't had the chance...plus I knew it would be a tough to get through because of the tough topics it discusses. Anyway, I finally did it!! So as some of you may know the movie was just released based on this novel, and from what I've heard it's a good one!  Stephen Chbosky, who also wrote the book, made the movie, so I think it's pretty much a guarantee that it will be true to his novel!  At least we can only hope!! Anyway, now to the review... Description from Goodreads : Standing on the fringes of life... offers a unique perspective. But there comes a time to see what it looks like from the dance floor. This haunting novel about the dilemma of passivity vs. passion marks the stunning debut of a provocative new voice in contemporary fiction: The...

One Day Movie...I finally saw it!!

Image
Happy Sunday everyone! So I don't think I've done this in the past, but from now on I have decided to make a review on movies where I have read the books.  It will most likely not happen very often, but once in a while, there will be a movie review up! ***WARNING!!! May Contain SPOILERS*** So today, I FINALLY saw One Day with Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess.  I read the book last year in September and Reviewed it, and absolutely adored it!  It is one of the most tragic love stories I have ever read!  So realistic, lovely, and moments of "I hate you so much right now" and "Oh I love you too!".  I just adored it! Well, anyway, so today I watched the movie...FINALLY!!  And even though I liked it, I couldn't help feeling a bit disappointed throughout sometimes. Let me begin by saying that the book was very detailed.  It skipped from year to year, starting off in 1988, when Emma and Dex first met and their friendship began, all the way up until ...
