Meg-A Readers Week!!! Day 1: The Princess Diaries by Meg Cabot (Review) (GIVEAWAY!)
Hey Everyone!!
I'm so excited to announce the first day of...Meg-A Readers!!!
This is the third year Diana, over at Little Miss Drama Queen, and I are putting on Meg-a Readers for all Meg Cabot fans! This year, is a little different, in that instead of doing two months, consecutively of all things Meg Cabot, we have decided to only do one week. Why? you may be asking?
Well, Meg isn't releasing any books this year, because next year she is releasing THREE!!!! And if you haven't already heard, they are SUPER REALLY EXCITING books being released!!!! Not that all of Meg's books aren't exciting! But it's just the books being released next year, are ones that some of us Meg Cabot fans have been waiting YEARS to read...Almost six for me!
What are they?
Well...
NOT just ONE BUT TWO new Princess Diaries books are coming out next year!!!!! One is another journal by my all-time favorite character, Mia Thermopolis!!! Could Michael and her finally be tying the knot???!!! And the second, is a new middle grade journal series, in the Point-of-View of Mia's long lost little sister!!
And THEN the third book being released is another continuation of another amazing series by Meg...a NEW MEDIATORS BOOK!!!!!!
HOLY CRAP, I'm having a hard time containing my excitement!! Not even kidding, my heart is about to explode from all of the excitement!!
Anyway, this year Diana and I only decided on one week, because we wanted to give all of our focus on planning next years, sure-to-be exciting Fourth Annual Meg-A-Readers!!
So for this year, because of my excitement for next years newest PD books, I'll be reviewing The Princess Diaries! Now I realize that there are more than ten books in the series, including the little novellas in between, there are 13, not including "Princess Lessons", which is really more of a guide than anything. So because Meg-A Readers is only seven days long, I'll be posting more than one review on some days! :) And then the last day will be dedicated to another end of a great Meg-A Readers!
So let's get Meg-A Readers 2014 started!!!
Starting with a review of The Princess Diaries!
From Goodreads:
She's just a New York City girl living with her artist mom...
News Flash: Dad is prince of Genovia. (So that's why a limo meets her at the airport!)
Downer: Dad can't have any more kids. (So no heir to the throne.)
Shock of the Century: Like it or not, Mia Thermopolis is prime princess material.
Mia must take princess lessons from her dreaded grandmére, the dowager princess of Genovia, who thinks Mia has a thing or two to learn before she steps up to the throne.
Well, her father can lecture her until he's royal-blue in the face about her princessly duty--no way is she moving to Genovia and leaving Manhattan behind. But what's a girl to do when her name is Princess Amelia Mignonette Grimaldi Thermopolis Renaldo?
My Thoughts:
So I've made it no secret how big of a fan of Meg Cabot's books I am! The Princess Diaries series is one of my absolute favorite series ever, if not THE most favorite, only because I've read it about...oh I don't know...a MILLION times!! Okay, not a million, but I would say I've read the entire series about a handful of times, the third at least a dozen times, and the tenth one about the same!
I just love living in Mia's world! Her life, learning to live to be a princess, her friends, her love interest(s), the mean girls, Lilly Tells It Like It Is, Michael Moscovitz! I just love every single minute of this series!!
The first book in the Princess Diaries Series, titled The Princess Diaries is the one that most people would like to believe is what Anne Hathaway acted out in the Disney movie, The Princess Diaries, but let's be honest here...while I love that movie, it is pretty much nothing like the book!! The only thing they have in common is somewhat of the storyline which is that Mia Thermopolis finds out she's the Princess of Genovia, her grandmother gives her princess lessons, her best friend's name is Lilly, and she has a brother named Michael, and her mother is an Artist...oh and her principal's name is Principal Gupta.
That is where the similarities end! The books take place in New York City, not San Francisco, her dad is alive, Mia's mom dates Mia's Algebra teacher named Mr. Gianini, not her speech teacher, Mr. O'Connel, who doesn't even exist in the books! Her Grandmere, not Grandma, because if Mia calls her Grandma she gets yelled at by said Grandmere, is pretty darn mean, not like Julie Andrews character in the movie version.
And sooooooooo many other differences!!
Don't get me wrong though, I do like the movie, but I just don't associate it with the book series! Sorry Disney, as much as I love you, I do give you blame for associating one of my favorite books to one of your movies!
Anyway, the first book the series, is pretty much Mia discovering she is the Princess of Genovia, after her dad finds out he can't have anymore kids due to having had testicular cancer...it looks like that whole not-being-able-to-have-kids thing is about to change...at least according to Meg's announcement about a continuation of the Princess Diaries series coming next year!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! OMG, I may have just broken my exclamation point...!!!!!!!! oh wait, never mind!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Anyway, I have always loved the beginning to this series! If I remember right though, when I first started it my freshman year of high school back in 2005, I believe I started with the second book, because I didn't actually know there was more than one book. But soon after, when I went back to my high school's library I found MORE PD books, which I of course checked one after the other, until I ran out of the ones the library had available, and then headed to our local book store in town (which is now unfortunately closed), and ended up buying each and every single one of the books there one by one...even the ones I had already read...which I ended up rereading and rereading!
In fact, I think those books are probably the books I've gotten the most out of my money for lol, for how many times I've read them!
So overall rating:
My rating for this book...and as you'll soon find out, every single book in this series, will forever and always be FIVE BOOKIES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :)
Highly recommend this series!!! It's just one of my absolute favorite and cutest series ever!!!!!! I will never get tired of it, and stop loving it!! :)
You can get your copy through Amazon, Barnes and Noble, or most other book store locations! :)
