Meg-A Readers Recap Week 4 (Review of Avalon High Manga Series!)

Hey Everyone!!

Week 4 is done and over with at Meg-A Readers!

I'm excited to share with you all my review of Meg's Avalon High Manga series!!
I reviewed Avalon High last year during Meg-A Readers, and have been wanting to read the manga continuation series ever since I first read Avalon back in high school!

From Goodreads:

Avalon High: Coronation Volume 1: The Merlin Prophecy

Being a new student at Avalon High has been exciting for Ellie, to say the least--she's an honor student, a star on the track team, and, oh yeah, dating the super-hot class president, Will. Who also happens to be the alleged reincarnation of King Arthur.

Ellie couldn't be happier to have Will in her life, but she's also worried that his estrangement from his parents is tearing him apart. To make matters worse, Will's doubt that he really is King Arthur could prevent the Merlin Prophecy--an age of enlightenment--from occurring. Can Ellie convince Will to believe in something that even she isn't sure about? And more importantly, can she get him to give his parents another chance?

With all the mythology and mysticism of avalon high, Meg Cabot's very first manga is indeed a tale for the ages.

Avalon High: Coronation Volume 2: Homecoming

Avalon High seems like a typical high school, attended by typical students: There's Lance, the jock. Jennifer, the cheerleader. And Will, senior class president, quarterback, and all-around good guy. But not everybody at Avalon High is who they appear to be ... not even, as new student Ellie is about to discover, herself. What part does she play in the drama that is unfolding? What if the bizarre chain of events and coincidences she has pieced together means -- as with the court of King Arthur -- tragedy is fast approaching Avalon High?

Worst of all, what if there's nothing she can do about it?

Avalon High: Coronation Volume 3: Hunter's Moon

The exciting conclusion to Meg Cabot's magical Arthurian manga!

Ellie has only one day left to get her boyfriend Will to truly believe he's the reincarnation of King Arthur, or the world will plunge into eternal darkness. But Will refuses to believe her! Meanwhile, the upcoming Homecoming game and dance have everyone distracted, especially Ellie. Some people aren't too happy about her Homecoming Queen nomination and are determined to cause trouble. Ellie's got to save her reputation and the world before the new moon on the night of Homecoming brings them all to a dangerous crossroad. If Ellie can't convince Will of his destiny, the world may never recover. . . .

This manga series of Arthurian legend and high school romance comes to a thrilling climax in this final volume. And just remember--anything can happen if you believe!

My Thoughts:

This series kept me on my toes!  I read all three of these in probably less than an hour!  First manga books I've ever read, and while I've never been a fan of anime, after reading these, I think I may give other adaptations a try!  I've been wanting to pick up The Twilight Graphic Novel for a while now ;).

Anyway, if you read Avalon High then I highly recommend these!  They are the perfect edition!  And if you haven't read Avalon High yet, then I would recommend it to you even if you are not a normal fantasy fan, because while I enjoy some fantasy once in a while, I've never been a huge fan of history (it's in the past after all!), I still truly enjoyed this series, mainly because of the modern spin Meg put on it!

Overall rating of the entire series:

Great series! What I loved most about it, is probably how Meg was able to incorporate her humor into not only the story part of the manga, but also the picture part.  The illustrator, Jinky Coronado, did a great job making the characters come to life through her drawings!

I definitely recommend this series, especially to anyone over the age of 13! :) and of course to you fellow Meg Cabot readers! :)

Okay now to the recap!!

We had another great post this week, from Jennifer at The Feminist Fairy who posted a review of the first two books in the 1-800-Where-R-You Series, When Lightning Strikes and Code Name Cassandra! :)

Oh and don't forget to enter last week's giveaway! Still one more week left! :)

Right of Way by Lauren Barnholdt (ARC)

Yay, finally somewhat back on track on reading review copies! :)

This time around I read Lauren Barnholdt's newest, Right Of Way, which was released July 9th, 2013.  Thank you to Edelweiss and Simon Pulse for accepting me to review it! :)

From Goodreads:

Can a road trip repair a romance gone wrong? Find out in this standalone companion to Lauren Barnholdt’s Two-way Street.

Here are Peyton and Jace, meeting on vacation. Click! It’s awesome, it’s easy, it’s romantic. This is the real deal.

Unless it isn’t. Because when you’re in love, you don’t just stop calling one day. And you don’t keep secrets. Or lie. And when your life starts falling apart, you’re supposed to have the other person to lean on.

Here are Peyton and Jace again, broken up but thrown together on a road trip. One of them is lying about the destination. One of them is pretending not to be leaving something behind. And neither of them is prepared for what’s coming on the road ahead…

My Thoughts:

This was my first book by Lauren Barnholdt!  I've had Two Way Street, which this book, Right of Way, is actually the stand-alone companion to, sitting on my TBR shelf for about two years now, but just haven't had the chance to read it yet.  Now that I've read this one, I'm definitely looking forward to reading it sooner, rather than later! :)

There were a lot of things I liked about this one...Jace for one.  While, his reasoning for not calling Peyton anymore was extremely lame, and quite frankly not his place to comment on, especially in that short of a time both his and Peyton's relationship had been able to bloom to, he had some great characteristics about him.  Peyton, while at first she may have come off a bit snobbish, she actually turned into a character that had learned a few things, both from her own mistakes and her mother's.

What Peyton's mom did to her...completely and 100% unacceptable, and quite frankly, if it were to have happened to me (which it wouldn't, because my mom is absolutely AMAZING!!) I would probably have become estranged from her.

Now to the things I didn't like...for one the petty reasons why Peyton and Jace stopped talking to each other.  I thought it was really juvenile, and sort of showed how NOT ready these two were for a serious relationship.    Second...the ENDING!! What the heck was that??!! So Peyton realized everything was going to be okay?  That's how it ended!  I didn't want her to think that, I wanted her to speak with her mom and dad about her feelings, and see their reactions! I wanted things to get solved!

Honestly, I felt that ending was unacceptable, and felt almost like the author just wanted the story to end.

Overall rating:
Aside from that somewhat disappointing ending, I enjoyed this story.  It was a cute easy read, with a good story line, and characters that grew up a little by the end.

I would recommend this one to Contemporary YA lovers definitely! I will warn you, there was some strong language, including the use of the "F" word, so beware of that.  Otherwise, no sex involved, it was vaguely mentioned, but other than that, nothing not teen related!

You can get your copy either at your nearest library, possibly, or at Amazon or Barnes and Noble! :)

Beautiful Bitch (#1.5 Beautiful Bastard Series) by Christina Lauren (Novella Review) (PLUS GIVEAWAY!!)

Hey Everyone!

Yay another book finished!! :)

From Goodreads:

Picking up where Beautiful Bastard left off, Chloe Mills and Bennett Ryan continue their steamy, combative relationship.

Just when Chloe’s career starts to take off, Bennett wishes it would all slow down long enough to spend a wild night alone with his girlfriend. But after he refuses to take no for an answer, Chloe and Bennett find themselves with two plane tickets, one French Villa, and a surprising conversation that, predictably, leaves them wrestling under the covers.

My Thoughts:

Yay, I'm so excited to have more of Chloe and Bennett!! :)  These two characters were awesome in Christina Lauren's first novel in the BB series, Beautiful Bastard!

We get to hear Chloe and Bennett's story continue right where BB left off!

What I think I loved most about these two characters is that they don't take each others crap, and while for most couples that would be the end, that characteristic is what keeps these two together!

Overall rating:

I highly recommend this series to anyone who enjoys steamy novels with strong characters!  I will say out of all the "erotic" adult novels I've read, the Fifty Shades Series, Sylvia Day's Crossfire Series, and other, this is my favorite; just because this one has a strong female character!  Beautiful Stranger, which is the second book in this series, doesn't focus on Chloe and Bennett, but instead on two new character's who are connected with Chloe and Bennett, Sara and Max.  While Sara is very vulnerable at the beginning of the novel, she proves to everyone that she is an independent woman that isn't going to take anyone's crap!  Just love that!!

So now for a surprise!  Unfortunately, I don't have that extra copy of Beautiful Bastard anymore, because I did a giveaway for that one a few months ago, but instead I have a copy of Beautiful Stranger and a copy Beautiful Bitch to give to one lucky US reader! :)

IT IS A USA ONLY giveaway (SORRY!! Shipping is too expensive internationally!).

This giveaway starts today and will run until midnight of August 18th! :)

Entwined with You (#3 in Crossfire Series) by Sylvia Day

Hey Everyone!!
So I finally finished another book! So sorry it's been taking me a while to read this summer, but I've been enjoying it doing things other than reading for once! :)  Which is sad yet super exciting at the same time!  I hope everyone is enjoying their summer vacation, and if you don't actually get a vacation, sorry!! I hope you're still enjoying some sunshine! :)

So anyway, I read the third book in Sylvia Day's Crossfire Series, Entwined With You, which was released at the beginning of June.

From Goodreads:

The worldwide phenomenon continues as Eva and Gideon face the demons of their pasts, and accept the consequences of their obsessive desires…

From the moment I first met Gideon Cross, I recognized something in him that I needed. Something I couldn’t resist. I saw the dangerous and damaged soul inside–so much like my own. I was drawn to it. I needed him as surely as I needed my heart to beat.

No one knows how much he risked for me. How much I’d been threatened, or just how dark and desperate the shadow of our pasts would become.

Entwined by our secrets, we tried to defy the odds. We made our own rules and surrendered completely to the exquisite power of possession…

My Thoughts:

Honestly, I'm a bit pissed!  I was very excited to finish another series, yet here is another author who has decided to drag it on...and it isn't necessary.

The ending was awful!  Especially for us fans who were looking for this series to end!  Overall, it had some great continuation points for the story, but their were just quite a few things that bothered me.

For instance, has Eva been this whiny throughout the whole series???? Because she reminded me a bit too much of Anastasia from Fifty Shades!

Why did Sylvia make the wedding so short????  Seriously, it was described in like two paragraphs and then BOOM OVER!    I was genuinely disappointed by that scene.

Overall rating:

Will I continue reading the series, you may be wondering after reading my thoughts above?  Yes!  Only because of that awful ending!  Am I still pissed she is dragging it out into at least TWO more books? HECK YES!!

If you've read the previous two books in the series, and enjoyed them, read it, but I would recommend reading it when the next novel is either already out in stores or fairly close to be released, because this ending will suck!

Thanks everyone! Talk to you all soon!! I've got a giveaway coming up in the next review, so stay tuned! :)

Meg-A Readers Recap Week 2! (PLUS: My Top 5 Favorite Meg Cabot Books!)

Hey Everyone!! :)

What a crazy week it has been once again!! I'm sorry, I'm seriously very slow with reading right now, but I've been busy working, hanging out with friends and loved ones, and gasp, yes other things have taken priority over reading!

But none the less, it's the end of the second week of Meg-A Readers ALREADY!!! :)

We had one awesome post this week, which I'll be sharing with you, after I tell you what my TOP FIVE FAVORITE MEG CABOT BOOKS ARE EVER!!! :)

So here they are:

#5:  She Went All the Way

It's been a few years since I read this one, so I'm thinking of rereading it for Meg-A Readers 2013, and adding a review for The Romance Bookie :).  I remember this book really funny, having some great characters, and let's be honest here...some pretty steamy scenes... ;).

#4: Missing You (#5 in the 1-800-Where-R-You Series)

This is the fifth and final book in the 1-800-Where-R-You series.  The reason this one was my favorite, is because I remember this is the one where Rob really started showing his true feelings for Jess.  He was so held back in the previous novels in the series, because of their age difference;  but in this one he really started opening up.  I loved it!

#3: Big Boned

This is the one where something HUGE happens in Heather and Luke's relationship!  I just love this series SOOOOOOO unbelievably much! Heather is probably the character I relate t the most out of EVERY single book I've ever read!  Minus the former PopStar Life, and mystery solving RA in the NYC college dorm. :)

#2:  Forever Princess

This is the tenth and final book in the Princess Diaries series, and brings back some of the best memories.  I read the first book in the series, my freshmen year of high school, and finished the series when the last book was released my senior year.  So in some ways, you could say I started high school with Mia, and then graduated with her.  I loved the ending Meg gave Mia, and REALLY REALLY (times a MILLION!!) hope she will continue Mia and Michael's story someday soon! :)

#1:  Princess In Love

The third book in the Princess Diaries Series.  This is probably my most read book ever!!! I've read it at least a dozen times!! Why? Because of the ending!! It's the one where (SPOILER!!!) Michael finally admits his feelings for Mia!!! The best ending of any book EVER!!!! Love it so much!! In fact, I would even go as far as saying that this is my all time favorite book ever!! And that is saying something, coming from a Book-aholic!!

So now for the recap!! :)

We had only post this week! It was a good one though!!

Liz over at Books I Think You Should Read reviewed the second book in the Insatiable series, Overbite! So be sure to check that out! :)

So here are the giveaways going on right now for Meg-A Readers!! :)

We've got the opening week's giveaway!

Then we've got the GRAND PRIZE giveaway, which will be running with the FIRST Prize, and SECOND prize giveaways until the end of Meg-A Readers!! :)

Meg-A Readers Recap Week 1 (Awaken Review)

Hey Everyone!! :)

Meg-A Readers has officially started!! (BTW, there is still time to sign up!!  You still have 4 more days!! Just go to THIS link!)

To start off this week's recap, I've got my review of Meg's newest release (July 2nd, 2013), and the final book in the Abandon Trilogy... Awaken!!!!!

Meg was so awesome and kind to both Diana and I, that she sent us both ARC copies of Awaken!! :)

***WARNING***This Review may contain spoilers from the previous books in the Abandon Trilogy!!!***

From Goodreads:

From #1 New York Times bestselling author Meg Cabot, the dark reimagining of the Persephone myth comes to a thrilling conclusion.

Death has her in his clutches. She doesn’t want him to let go.

Seventeen-year-old Pierce Oliviera knew by accepting the love of John Hayden, she’d be forced to live forever in the one place she’s always dreaded most: the Underworld. The sacrifice seemed worth it, though, because it meant she could be with the boy she loves.

But now her happiness — and safety — are threatened, all because the Furies have discovered that John has broken one of their strictest rules: He revived a human soul.

If the balance between life and death isn’t fixed, both the Underworld and Pierce’s home back on earth will be wiped away. But there’s only one way to restore order. Someone has to die.

My Thoughts:

Wow!! Love this series!! Then again, of course I do!! It's Meg Freaking Cabot!!  The most amazing author ever!! I guess some of you may say I'm biased...oh well lol. :)

Anyway, the conclusion to the Abandon Trilogy, Awaken was everything a reader could hope for to this series!  It had adventure, great characters, an ending that felt good, but in the end could possibly maybe be expanded in the future???  Who knows though??!!

Pierce has Meg's signature charm, when it comes to her characters.  She's funny, sarcastic, knows what she wants.

John is hot!!  A great guy, who truly adores his girlfriend, Pierce.

Pierce and John, in Awaken, just truly want to get rid of these pesky Furies, who just continue to try to ruin both of their lives!  Not only is Isla Huesos (Island of the Bones) in danger from a mad storm hitting, but also the Underworld is in danger now!  The Fates are gone, which means no one if there to help John, Pierce, and everyone else living in the castle of the Underworld!

The adventure in this book is great!  We've got fighting scenes involving whips, knives, pitch forks...so much!  We've got a great love story!  A modern retelling of the Greek mythology of Persephone, the queen of the Underworld, this series had it all!

Overall rating:

I loved it!  While almost everything was perfect, I will admit to sort of not liking one thing...Pierce's in difference of finishing high school.  Okay, call me old fashioned here, but at barely eighteen, no matter if needed or not (which, lets be honest here, Pierce wouldn't need high school, since she'll be ruling the Underworld with John for the rest of their lives) school is still important!  I'm just hoping she'll continue reading! :)

Anyway, other than that, this is a great series, I highly recommend it!!!

Definitely check it out! :)

So now to this weeks recap!!

Opening week has been a  good one!! :)

We had a post everyday that went up somewhere for Meg-A Readers!

James over @Book Chic Club wrote a review for Awaken too!  He enjoyed it, just as much as I did!

And then we had a joint review of the entire Abandon Trilogy over at Sara's What a Nerd Girl Says!

Two great start off posts to kick-off Meg-A Readers!!

Now tomorrow, I know we will have a great review from one of my blogging BFFs, Liz over at Books I Think You Should Read, so I'll be recapping that one next week! :)

Also, if you missed it, we've got our first giveaway up!! You could win signed copies of Abandon and Underworld, the first two books in the Abandon Trilogy!!
