Erin: The Bone Season by Samantha Shannon

Image
Hi Everyone!! I've got a review today of a book I'm super excited about!! The Bone Season  by Samantha Shannon! As you may know, I met Samantha Shannon earlier this year when she was on tour for her new book, The Mime Order , the sequel to The Bone Season.   This was definitely a book I was really looking forward to and I am happy to report I was not disappointed!! Here's my full review below!! :D From Goodreads : The year is 2059.  Nineteen-year-old Paige Mahoney is working in the criminal underworld of Scion London, based at Seven Dials, employed by a man name Jaxon Hall.  Her job: to scout for information by breaking into people's minds.  For Paige is a dream walker, a clairvoyant and, in the world of Scion, she commits treason simply by breathing. It is raining the day her life changes forever.  Attacked, drugged and kidnapped, Paige is transported to Oxford - a city kept secret for two hundred years, controlled by a powerful, otherworldly ...

Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Image
Hey Everyone! So the semester has officially started, so I'm back at work and school!  Reading time has unfortunately been cut down again a bit, but it's okay, I'm still attempting to make as much time as possible for reading this year!  Book three for 2015 is done (Review for book #2 is coming soon!)! This time around, I read a book, I've had sitting on my shelf for almost a year, and have been wanting to read since I finished one of this author's novels last year, around this time. Fangirl  by Rainbow Rowell. From Goodreads : From the author of the  New York Times  bestseller  Eleanor & Park . A coming-of-age tale of fan fiction, family and first love.   Cath is a Simon Snow fan. Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan... But for Cath, being a fan is her life—and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother le...

Guest Review from Erin: Teardrop (Teardrop #1) by Lauren Kate

Image
Hello! I've got a review for you!   Teardrop by Lauren Kate, who also wrote the Fallen  series!!  This is the first book in a duology-came out a while ago! Anyway, on to the review! From Goodreads : Never, ever cry... Seventeen-year-old Eureka won't let anyone close enough to feel her pain. After her mother was killed in a freak accident, the things she used to love hold no meaning. She wants to escape, but one thing holds her back: Ander, the boy who is everywhere she goes, whose turquoise eyes are like the ocean. And then Eureka uncovers an ancient tale of romance and heartbreak, about a girl who cried an entire continent into the sea. Suddenly her mother's death and Ander's appearance seem connected, and her life takes on dark undercurrents that don't make sense. Can everything you love be washed away? Erin's Review: Wow, this is a book that can really suck you in.  Although it isn't my favorite book or anything, I found it super engrossing.  I...

That Is Not a Good Idea! by Mo Willems (Children's Book Review)

Image
Hey Everyone! So today's review is a little different from the norm, because it's actually a review of a children's picture book that I read for a project in my Children's Literature Class.  I had to make a puppet representing a character from any children's novel intended for ages 0-5, so I picked That Is Not A Good Idea!  by Mo Willems. This will only be a short review, since it's only a short book, and I don't want to give away too much! From Goodreads : That Is Not a Good Idea!   is a hilarious, interactive picture book from bestselling author and illustrator Mo Willems, the creator of books like Don’t Let the Pigeon Drive the Bus , the Knuffle Bunny series, the Elephant and Piggie series,   Goldilocks and the Three Dinosaurs , and many other new classics.   Inspired by the evil villains and innocent damsels of silent movies, Willems tells the tale of a hungry fox who invites a plump goose to dinner. As with the beloved Pigeon books, kids wil...

Guest Review from Erin: Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea by April Genevieve Tucholke

Image
Hello! Today I've got a review for a creepy book I recently read: Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea .  Kind of funny, I was utterly CONVINCED I had read this book, but every time I read the synopsis, I was so confused because I could not remember a thing about it.  I finally finally  figured out I was actually thinking of Ashes on the Waves  by Mary Lindsey, which in my defense, has a very similar feel to this book.  Anyways, on to the review! From Goodreads: You stop fearing the devil when you’re holding his hand… Nothing much exciting rolls through Violet White’s sleepy, seaside town… until River West comes along. River rents the guest house behind Violet’s crumbling estate, and as eerie, grim things start to happen, Violet begins to wonder about the boy living in her backyard.   Is River just a crooked-smiling liar with pretty eyes and a mysterious past? Or could he be something more? Violet’s grandmother always warned her about the Devil, bu...

Dare You To (Pushing the Limits #2) by Katie McGarry

Image
Hey Everyone!! :) Over a year ago, I read Katie McGarry's first book in the Pushing the Limits Series ,  Pushing the Limits , and fell absolutely in love with the characters, the writing, the story! Just everything!  I knew right away that I would want to read the other books in the series, as soon as possible!  At the time the second book, Dare You To  was a few days away from being released, and unfortunately I caught up in other books, so by the time I did get the chance to read it, I had almost forgotten about it! I know I suck!  But that's the problem with when you start a series, and the other books aren't available yet!! Anyway, almost a year and a half later...I've finally read the second one in the series, Dare You To ! From Goodreads : Ryan lowers his lips to my ear. "Dance with me, Beth." "No." I whisper the reply. I hate him and I hate myself for wanting him to touch me again.... "I dare you..." If anyone knew the tr...

Guest Review from Erin: Goddess (#3 in the Starcrossed Trilogy) by Josephine Angelini

Image
Goddess !!! The last book in the Starcrossed Trilogy by Josephine Angelini!! The last book in a series is always a scary thing for me.  It can totally make or break a series! ( *cough cough* Requiem *cough* ) From Goodreads : After accidentally unleashing the gods from their captivity on Olympus, Helen must find a way to re-imprison them without starting a devastating war. But the gods are angry, and their thirst for blood already has a body count. To make matters worse, the Oracle reveals that a diabolical Tyrant is lurking among them, which drives a wedge between the once-solid group of friends. As the gods use the Scions against one another, Lucas’s life hangs in the balance. Still unsure whether she loves him or Orion, Helen is forced to make a terrifying decision, for war is coming to her shores. In Josephine Angelini’s compelling conclusion to the masterfully woven Starcrossed trilogy, a goddess must rise above it all to change a destiny that’s been written in the st...

Which is why the sixteen-year-old girl discovered floating among the wreckage—alive—is making headlines across the globe. Guest Review from Erin: Life After Theft by Aprilynne Pike

Image
Here's another great review from Erin!! :) From  Goodreads : Moving to a new high school sucks. Especially a rich-kid private school. With uniforms. But nothing is worse than finding out the first girl you meet is dead. And a klepto.   No one can see or hear Kimberlee except Jeff, so--in hopes of bringing an end to the snarkiest haunting in history--he agrees to help her complete her "unfinished business." But when the enmity between Kimberlee and Jeff's new crush, Sera, manages to continue posthumously, Jeff wonders if he's made the right choice. Clash meets sass in this uproarious modern-day retelling of Baroness Orczy's   The Scarlet Pimpernel . Erin's Thoughts: So I read this book because I am a huge fan of Aprilynne Pike and her  Wings  series!! But this book is a big departure from  Wings.   Although it's about a ghost, the rest of the story is very much a contemporary setting (high school), which is similar to  Wings ,...

The Runaway Queen (The Bane Chronicles #2) by Cassandra Clare (Co-Authored by Maureen Johnson)

Image
Hey Everyone! Just another Manic Monday has begun, right? Well, anyway, I finished the second novella in The Bane Chronicles, The Runaway Queen  by Cassandra Clare, and co-authored by Maureen Johnson. I am a huge Cassandra Clare fan, and have enjoyed a couple of Maureen Johnson's books, but I was excited when I learned they co-authored a novella for this series, and had to of course get it for my Kindle right away. From Goodreads : Magnus Bane has a royal role in the French Revolution—if the angry mobs don’t spoil his spells. One of ten adventures in The Bane Chronicles. While in France, immortal warlock Magnus Bane finds himself attempting to rescue the royal family from the horrors of the French Revolution—after being roped into this mess by a most attractive count. Naturally, the daring escape calls for invisible air balloons… This standalone e-only short story illuminates the life of the enigmatic Magnus Bane, whose alluring personality populates the pages of the ...

Real (Real #1) by Katy Evans

Image
***WARNING!!! This is an ADULT book containing sexual scenes!!!*** ***ALSO this review may contain some spoilers, so read with caution!*** Hey Everyone! I cannot even tell you how hard it is to have to write this review!  But unfortunately, I have promised to be honest when reviewing the books I read...so here goes. I finished Real  by Katy Evans today.  It was sent to me by the publisher, and I had heard, before reading it, that it has gotten rave reviews! In fact I've read quite a few of those reviews now, because I just can't believe how so many people liked this book...Okay, I am 100% not bashing anyone who enjoyed it, I've mentioned before that when people respect what I like and they don't like it, that I'll respect their opinions. So anyway, instead I'll give you my opinion on this book! But first here's a description from Goodreads : Remington Tate has a bad-boy rep in and out of the ring, a granite-hard body, and a raw, anim...

Revealing Us (Inside Out #3) by Lisa Renee Jones (ARC)

Image
***WARNING!!! MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FROM PREVIOUS NOVELS IN SERIES!!! AND HAS SOME STRONG SEXUAL CONTENT NOT SUITABLE FOR ANYONE UNDER THE AGE OF 18!!!!!*** Hey Everyone! So while I've started reading like three or four different books, I wasn't getting 100% into them, so the other day I just decided to just pick up my Kindle and find something I've been looking forward to reading, but just haven't had the chance to pick up! That's when I found Lisa Renee Jones's Revealing Us , the third in her Inside Out Series!  I love this series, I've read both the novellas and the actually full-length books that go with this series! You've discovered Sara's secrets. Now Sara will discover "his" deepest, darkest secrets...but will those secrets bind them tog...

What Really Happened in Peru (The Bane Chronicles #1) by Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan

Image
Hey Everyone! As some of you may know, I'm a huge fan of Cassandra Clare's books!  So last year when I got to meet Cassie, along with Maureen Johnson and Sarah Rees Brennan, I was stoked on life to find out she had co-authored with both Maureen and Sarah and written a novella series, in the world of both The Mortal Instrument  and Infernal Devices  series! Well, a year later, I've FINALLY come around to reading the first book in The Bane Chronicles , entitled, What Really Happened in Peru ! What Really Happened in Peru  was written by both Cassandra Clare and Sarah Rees Brennan! From Goodreads : Fans of The Mortal Instruments and The Infernal Devices know that Magnus Bane is banned from Peru—and now they can find out why. One of ten adventures in The Bane Chronicles. There are good reasons Peru is off-limits to Magnus Bane. Follow Magnus’s Peruvian escapades as he drags his fellow warlocks Ragnor Fell and Catarina Loss into trouble, learns several instr...
