Plagiarizing! Embarrassment! Reputations Ruined!

Hey Everyone!

I have some apologizing to do!  However, before I go on, I want you all to know...I HONESTLY HAD NO IDEA!!

So as some of you may have heard, a horrible act of plagiarism in the book world, and I unfortunately have been unintentionally (on my part) became involved!

A few weeks ago, I received an email from the author accused of these allegations.  She first found me on Facebook asking me to promote her novel, and then emailed me.  I was excited to help, because I love helping indie authors get out their books into the world.  I never thought something like this would happen!

Well, my post went up on her books release date.

I will admit, I did not get a chance to read it.  I have also never read the book that was plagiarized, even though I believe I bought it for my Kindle when I first got it, but due to too many books that need to be read, it just never made it to the top of the list.

I have since deleted the promotion post, and honestly right now, I'm questioning whether or not I should be accepting anymore books from indie authors to promote.  This is NOT me saying I'm accusing all Indie authors of plagiarizing! OH NOT AT ALL!! I swear!!

It is just that my reputation is on the line here!  Including all of the other bloggers that this author emailed and got to join in on her blog tour!!

The Romance Bookie is my baby!  I have worked my butt off to where I am right now!! It's taken over two and a half years, and honestly I'm still working towards more!  I do not need some author, blogger, or anyone else ruining that for me!

I am not saying all indie authors are like this author...not at all!  I'm just worried!  What would happen if this happened again?!  I could get hate messages!  I am a good person, and would never want to ruin anyone's reputation, so I find this to be 100% unacceptable!!

At first, when I read the article I was thinking, "Who knows?  Maybe it's just some jealous person who was trying to take down another author?"  But then I went on this authors Twitter page, Facebook page...and guess what? ALL DELETED!! They no longer exist!

That's extremely suspicious behavior right there, in my opinion!!

Anyway, the point of this post...it's sad how one author could do this! Because not only did this author ruin her reputation FOREVER!! she could have also ruined a lot of blogs out there!  We've had enough of these plagiarizing scandals, here in the book blogging world! We don't need any more!!

The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen (Review)

Hey Everyone!

So I just finished reading The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen, which was released earlier this month!

Here's my review:

From Goodreads:

Luke is the perfect boyfriend: handsome, kind, fun. He and Emaline have been together all through high school in Colby, the beach town where they both grew up. But now, in the summer before college, Emaline wonders if perfect is good enough.

Enter Theo, a super-ambitious outsider, a New Yorker assisting on a documentary film about a reclusive local artist. Theo's sophisticated, exciting, and, best of all, he thinks Emaline is much too smart for Colby.Emaline's mostly-absentee father, too, thinks Emaline should have a bigger life, and he's convinced that an Ivy League education is the only route to realizing her potential. Emaline is attracted to the bright future that Theo and her father promise. But she also clings to the deep roots of her loving mother, stepfather, and sisters. Can she ignore the pull of the happily familiar world of Colby?Emaline wants the moon and more, but how can she balance where she comes from with where she's going?Sarah Dessen's devoted fans will welcome this story of romance, yearning, and, finally, empowerment. It could only happen in the summer.

My Thoughts:

Sarah Dessen has this great way of incorporating some of my favorite characters from past novels into her other novels, that it's great finding out how they are doing!  In The Moon and More, Auden, the main character in my all-time-favorite Sarah Dessen novel, Along for the Ride was mentioned!

The Moon and More brought on the story of a new character in Sarah's favorite town of Colby.  Emaline.  Emaline, who is about to embark on one of the most difficult parts of life...going on her own to college, is trying to make the best of her last summer with her boyfriend of four years, Luke.  That is before her Father comes into town!  Not her, dad, but her FATHER.  Her dad, is the man who raised her all these years, and adopted her at the age of three, her Father is the man who abandoned her and her mother when her mom found out she was pregnant with Emaline at the age of eighteen.

And then to make matters worse, her relationship with Luke, might not be as stable as she was thinking.  And there is that kid, Theo...oh yeah, he comes into the picture too, just to complicate things even further...

Anyway, overall thoughts of this one...disappointed, honestly.  I love Sarah Dessen's book.  I've read ALL of them, and enjoyed the majority of them!  However, this was one of those miss ones for me unfortunately.  I thought The Moon and More was somewhat uneventful.  While there was drama, and Emaline's inability to make responsible choices in her life, I honestly just felt there something missing to this story.

I didn't find any kind of climatic elements to the story, just sort of a straight through book of Emaline figuring things out, in a somewhat unexciting way.

Overall rating:

Overall, I will say there were some things I enjoyed about this one.  For one, it's a Sarah Dessen book...so in other words, one of my favorite authors...aka I can't give it a super low rating!

I liked a few of the characters very much, such as Emaline's half-brother, Benji.  I thought he was a great addition to the story.  I also actually really liked Ivy, the lady in charge of the documentary...Theo's boss.

The characters I didn't really like, were Theo...he was a shallow bastard!
I wasn't a huge fan of Emaline at times, just because of her inability of not being able to make decisions.

I didn't like how fast she moved on from her four year relationship with Luke...exactly two HOURS!

While, this was unfortunately, and disappointingly a miss for me, when it comes to Sarah Dessen's novels, I'm definitely still looking forward to what Sarah has in store for the future...aka another two years at least!!

So here's to the future! :)

Dragonfly (#1 in Dragonfly Series) by Leigh Talbert Moore

Today I'm very excited to be taking part in Leigh Talbert Moore's Dragonfly blog tour!

From Goodreads:

COMING THIS JUNE!
On NetGalley until 5/27! (http://bit.ly/YCz0cf)

“Gossip Girl meets VC Andrews in this contemporary family saga. Love, lies, and betrayal become the new normal when Anna enters the world of Jack and Lucy Kyser.” –Magan Vernon, international bestselling author of The Only Exception

Anna Sanders expected an anonymous (and uneventful) senior year until she crossed paths with rich-and-sexy Jack Kyser and his twin sister Lucy.

Pulling Anna into their extravagant lifestyle on the Gulf Coast, Lucy pushed her outside her comfort zone and Jack showed her feelings she's never experienced... Until he mysteriously withdrew.

Anna turned to her internship at the city paper and to her old attraction for Julian, a handsome local artist and rising star, for distraction. But both led to her discovery of a decades-old secret closely guarded by the twins' distant, single father.

It's a secret that could cost her the boy she loves and permanently change all their lives.

Be watching for Book #2: UNDERTOW, coming in July!
My Thoughts:

Leigh Talbert Moore's novel Dragonfly, has an interesting and intriguing story line.  With a hint of mystery, that had me on the edge of my seat near the end, and to be honest FREAKING OUT when I read the last sentence.  I turned the page on my Kindle, and then it gave me the author info.  I was like "WHAT???!! NO!!!" I honestly almost gave this book 2 Bookies, BUT then I saw THANK YOU LEIGH!! that there will be a second book released this July!! Hallelujah!

I found this story and these characters very intriguing, because Anna, while starting off as a fairly normal uninteresting (for a story anyway), turned into such a complex person!  While I will admit I was annoyed with her non-decision between Jack and Julian...because COME ON, we should all know the obvious choice (cough Julian cough!).

Jack, while a great guy...possibly one day, when he's matured a bit, needs to work on some issues, and just comes with a bit too much baggage.  Julian on the other hand, has been there for Anna for the past two years, obviously adores her, and knows where he is headed in life!

Overall rating...

I truly enjoyed this one!  I thought the characters were intriguing, the mystery and story were interesting and definitely have ME WANTING MORE!!!!!!!  I NEED this second book!!!!  NOW!!!!  Leigh, do you hear me!!! The Romance Bookie NEEDS book 2! That ending killed me!!

This book is available now! You can get your copy of Dragonfly by Leigh Talbert Moore from AmazonBarnes and Noble, or iTunes! It is only 99 cents for a limited time! :)

And I definitely recommend to you YA/New Adult fans! For you younger ones, the under 16 years old, I will warn you and let you know this contains some mature content that might not be appropriate for your age...

Thanks everyone!

The Au Pairs (The Au Pairs #1) by Melissa de la Cruz (Review)

Finally another book off the To-Be-Read Shelf!!  VERY slowly making process on that one...

Anyone, this time around I read Melissa de la Cruz's, if I'm not mistaken, Debut book The Au Pairs.  I picked this one up at a Goodwill about a year ago, because it seemed like a fun beach read! :)

From Goodreads:

Three girls with three agendas and the ultimate destination: the Hamptons.

Summer in the city? Way overrated. Everybody who's anybody in New York City summers in the Hamptons. Mara, Eliza, and Jacqui all want a piece of the action, all for different reasons.
So the girls answer a classified ad to become au pairs. How bad can it be, watching a couple of kids on the beach all day? They've got the swank address, the sweet ride, and an all-access pass to the hottest social scene on the East Coast. It's shaping up to be the summer of their lives.

My Thoughts:

I'm just going to say it right away...this book was a tad annoying.  Out of the three main characters, only one was tolerable, and even that ONE at times I wanted to smack!

Mara, the one I actually could tolerate, was the only down-to-earth and somewhat relate able character out of this entire book!  While, not used to the rich snootiness that is the Hamptons, the reader can tell that for a bit she was starting to get used to the lifestyle.  Overall, she was very nice, a bit of a push over though.  The other two girls would leave Mara all alone to watch these five kids, while they're off doing God knows what!

Eliza, while this character actually somewhat grew into a somewhat tolerable person at the end of the book, she just bothered me so much!  Her family used to rich like the people in the Hamptons, in fact they even owned a summer house there, that her father had to sell when some serious legal problems took all of their money away.  Eliza, still stuck in her rich ways, can't accept the fact that this world is not hers anymore.  She has a serious shopping problem!  She is rude to people, and just overall can't get over herself!

Jacqui...okay, I don't even know where to begin with this one!  She was probably my absolute least favorite out of the three girls.  I don't actually understand what her deal is either.  She would flirt with these very old guys to get things out of them, whether it be a party invitation everyone is dying to get, or a free dinner.  She is so naive it was almost ridiculous!

Overall rating for this one...

This book could have been a great summer read, if it these characters would have been a little different. In the end, they did each have their big epiphany that the reader expects, but while it happened, I couldn't help wondering, "Did they really learn their lessons?"  Mara was a pretty good character, but the other two...I don't know...

If you like the Gossip Girl series, then I think you'll enjoy this one.  This book is filled with drama, the rich life style that most people fantasize about.  While I do love money of course, I could never see myself living in a world where people think they are better than others just because they have a credit card their parents gave them...

If you're going to read this one, I will say read it in the summer!  That way you get the whole summer experience!

Secrets and Lies by Kody Keplinger (Novella)

Hey Everyone!!

So I vaguely remember hearing that Kody Keplinger was releasing two new short stories this year, but what I didn't realize was how soon!!

As in June 1st soon!!

So on Tuesday, as I was purchasing my copies of The Moon and More by Sarah Dessen and my copy of Entwined with you by Sylvia Day, I got an email saying Secrets and Lies is out now!!  And guess what it was only $2.99!!!

So yeah, I got it right away!! And read it!! :)

From Amazon:

Kody Keplinger both returns to the halls of Hamilton High and explores new territory in her collection of two e-book exclusive novellas. In these short stories, the author revisits a familiar cast of characters from THE DUFF (Designated Ugly Fat Friend) and A Midsummer's Nightmare. Explore the uniquely teen world of high school drama, secrets, and romantic entanglements from completely fresh perspectives that will intrigue fans of Kody Keplinger and new readers alike.
My Thoughts:

I am a huge Kody Keplinger fan! Not only is she super fun to talk to, but she's also a great writer!  And she's only 21!!!  My age!! She's written THREE published novels, PLUS TWO more scheduled to be released both next year!  How awesome and amazing is that??

Well, anyway, I truly enjoyed Kody's two new short stories that she had published!

I thought they were a great edition to the Hamilton High family, which is the location of her three previous books, plus it had some of the side characters in it too! Like Wesley and Bianca make numerous appearance in the first short story, "Abbreviations and Alliterations", plus an appearance by Bianca's first crush in Kody's The DUFF, which is honestly still one of my all time favorite books (and actually I'm giving away a copy right now!! Check out that giveaway HERE!).

Plus Whitley and Nate make an appearance in the second novella, "People Worth Knowing"!

I honestly just love when authors put there previous main character into their new books as side characters, so the readers can see what happened to them!  Kody, along with Miranda Kenneally and Sarah Dessen do this! :)

Overall rating:

I really liked this one! I thought it had two great stories and not only some of my favorite past characters, but also a more deeper look into a few of Kody's past minor characters!  It was great!  I will admit and say, I was not a huge fan of Casey's speaking style in the first one.  She used abbreviations to describe her emotions, like "OMG" "STFU" and others, and honestly living in California, we do have people that talk like that here, but it ALSO DRIVES ME INSANE!!!

Other than that, I thought Casey was a great character and person!  Toby is perfect for her! :)

Plus Bailey is perfect with her mystery man too! :) (I don't want to give away too much here, afterall!) :)

So that's it from me once again! I'll talk to all later!

Faking It Release Day Launch!

Today is the release day and book birthday of Cora Carmack's second release Faking It!!! :)

I read this one last week, and loved it!  You can check out my review HERE

ABOUT FAKING IT:

Mackenzie “Max” Miller has a problem. Her parents have arrived in town for a surprise visit, and if they see her dyed hair, tattoos, and piercings, they just might disown her. Even worse, they’re expecting to meet a nice, wholesome boyfriend, not a guy named Mace who has a neck tattoo and plays in a band. All her lies are about to come crashing down around her, but then she meets Cade.

Cade moved to Philadelphia to act and to leave his problems behind in Texas. So far though, he’s kept the problems and had very little opportunity to take the stage. When Max approaches him in a coffee shop with a crazy request to pretend to be her boyfriend, he agrees to play the part. But when Cade plays the role a little too well, they’re forced to keep the ruse going. And the more they fake the relationship, the more real it begins to feel.

ABOUT CORA CARMACK:

Cora Carmack is a twenty-something writer who likes to write about twenty-something characters. She's done a multitude of things in her life-- boring jobs (like working retail), Fun jobs (like working in a theatre), stressful jobs (like teaching), and dream jobs (like writing). She enjoys placing her characters in the most awkward situations possible, and then trying to help them get a boyfriend out of it. Awkward people need love, too. Her first book, LOSING IT, is a New York Times and USA Today bestseller.
