Hey Everyone, I actually cannot believe I am writing this review right now, because to be honest, there are a thousand other things that I need to be doing right now, but I am so ready for my yearly book event tomorrow (YALL WEST!!!) that I just couldn't wait to finally be able to write a review again! So I do have some exciting news... After months and months of the sh*# that my life has become I got some good news last Friday.  Not only am I graduating on May 20th, with my bachelor's in Early Childhood Studies, but I will also be graduating with Honors!  This has been the ultimate goal since I lost my dad in September. I knew I had to keep going, I knew my dad would want me to finish school; and for my own goal I wanted to make him extra proud by graduating with honors.  And I did it. But school is not over just yet.  I have made my final homework list!  Which means as soon as I get through this list of things to do for school...I am officially done wi...

Twilight: The Graphic Novel: Volume 2 by Stephenie Meyer (Illustrated by Young Kim)

Image
Hey Everyone!! So again, it's been a while.  In reality, while I still absolutely love reading, in all honesty it just hasn't been my #1 priority in life.  I have two jobs, go to school twice a week for night classes, have one class online, and have been spending all the access free time I have left, with my boyfriend.  It's been a crazy and exciting last few months, and I don't see it slowing down anytime soon. In reality, The Romance Bookie, will in NO MEANS be shut down, but reviews will continue to be slower and slower in going up.  I still read when I can, and once my classes end middle of next month, for the semester, I will have a couple of weeks, where I can just focus on reading whatever my heart desires, during my breaks :). But anyway, I've been itching to write a review, so I read something pretty quick this morning.  A few weeks ago, I found in a clearance bin, at Rite Aid (a pharmacy), of all places a beautiful hardcover of the second book in...

Guest Review from Erin: The Near Witch (The Near Witch #1) by Victoria Schwab

Image
Another witch book! And there are more coming your way!! This one is called The Near Witch and it is very different from House of Ivy and Sorrow , which I read previously. From Goodreads: The Near Witch is only an old story told to frighten children.  If the wind calls at night, you must not listen. The wind is lonely, and always looking for company.  And there are no strangers in the town of Near. These are the truths that Lexi has heard all her life.   But when an actual stranger-a boy who seems to fade like smoke-appears outside her home on the moor at night, she knows that at least one of these sayings is no longer true. The next night, the children of Near start disappearing from their beds, and the mysterious boy falls under suspicion. Still, he insists on helping Lexi search for them. Something tells her she can trust him. As the hunt for the children intensifies, so does Lexi's need to know-about the witch that just might be more than a bedtime story, about ...

Guest Review from Erin: Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini

Hey Everyone!! From Goodreads : How do you defy destiny? Helen Hamilton has spent her entire sixteen years trying to hide how different she is—no easy task on an island as small and sheltered as Nantucket. And it's getting harder. Nightmares of a desperate desert journey have Helen waking parched, only to find her sheets damaged by dirt and dust. At school she's haunted by hallucinations of three women weeping tears of blood . . . and when Helen first crosses paths with Lucas Delos, she has no way of knowing they're destined to play the leading roles in a tragedy the Fates insist on repeating throughout history. As Helen unlocks the secrets of her ancestry, she realizes that some myths are more than just legend. But even demigod powers might not be enough to defy the forces that are both drawing her and Lucas together—and trying to tear them apart. Erin's Thoughts on Starcrossed  by Josephine Angelini: OMG! THIS WAS SUCH AN AMAZING BOOK!!! I don't even k...

Guest Review from Erin: Blood Red Road (Dustlands book #1) by Moira Young

Image
Happy Friday Everyone!!! From Goodreads : Saba lives in Silverlake, a wasteland ravaged by constant sandstorms where her family scavenge from landfills left by the long-gone Wrecker civilization. After four cloaked horsemen kidnap her beloved twin brother Lugh, she teams up with daredevil Jack and the Free Hawks, a girl gang of Revolutionaries.   Saba learns that she is a fierce fighter, an unbeatable survivor, and a cunning opponent. And she has the power to take down a corrupt society from the inside. Saba and her new friends stage a showdown that change the course of her civilization. Erin's Thoughts: WOAH!! Blood Red Road is definitely an exciting read! There's a ton of action going on and it's always moving forward!! I think I should start off by saying that this book is entirely written in an accent, so a lot of words are misspelled and the grammar is often times wrong.  Also, there are no quotation marks used AT ALL!! I know this could put a lot of peop...

Guest Review from Erin: Catching Jordan (Hundred Oaks #1) by Miranda Kenneally

And it's Monday Everyone!! But to cheer all of you up I'd like to introduce once again Erin, who I first introduced to everyone on  Saturday  !   Erin has written her first guest review for The Romance Bookie, and it's... Catching Jordan  by Miranda Kenneally!! One of my absolute favorites!!! From Erin: From  Goodreads : ONE OF THE BOYS What girl doesn't want to be surrounded by gorgeous jocks day in and day out? Jordan Woods isn't just surrounded by hot guys, though-she leads them as the captain and quarterback of her high school football team. They all see her as one of the guys and that's just fine. As long as she gets her athletic scholarship to a powerhouse university. But everything she's ever worked for is threatened when Ty Green moves to her school. Not only is he an amazing QB, but he's also amazingly hot. And for the first time, Jordan's feeling vulnerable. Can she keep her head in the game while her heart's...

Shut Out by Kody Keplinger (Audiobook Review)

Image
Hey Guys! So I didn't think I would be finishing another Audiobook this year, but thanks to the 45 minute commute to take my final last night, I finally finished listening to Kody Keplinger's Shut Out ! From Goodreads : Most high school sports teams have rivalries with other schools. At Hamilton High, it's a civil war: the football team versus the soccer team. And for her part, Lissa is sick of it. Her quarterback boyfriend, Randy, is always ditching her to go pick a fight with the soccer team or to prank their locker room. And on three separate occasions Randy's car gas been egged while he and Lissa were inside, making out. She is done competing with a bunch of sweaty boys for her own boyfriend's attention.   Lissa decides to end the rivalry once and for all: she and the other players' girlfriends go on a hookup strike. The boys won't get any action from them until the football and soccer teams make peace. What they don't count on is a new sor...

Lola and the Boy Next Door by Stephanie Perkins Review

Image
Hey Everyone! So I FINALLY read it!! I've been wanting to read this book FOREVER, but have been almost trying not to, just so I don't have to wait too long for Stephanie Perkins next book! NOW, I have to wait until September!!! UGH!!! I read Stephanie Perkins Anna and the French Kiss last year, shortly after I met Stephanie at a signing here in my area! I absolutely fell in love with that book!!  I actually had bought Lola and the Boy Next Door (which is a companion novel to Anna and the French Kiss !) there as well, and had gotten it signed, knowing I would devour that book by the time I got to it! Well I did! From Goodreads :   Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn’t believe in fashion...she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit--more sparkly, more fun, more wild--the better. But even though Lola’s style is outrageous, she’s a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right dow...

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi Review

Image
So I've been waiting to get my hands on Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi for many months! I've heard SOOOO many great things about it, and I just knew I had to read it! Description via Goodreads : I don't really get why she is wearing that dress?? But the cover still looks pretty awesome!! Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color. The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war– and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Julie...

"Shut Out" should be anything but shut out!

Image
So I got a great surprise the other day in the mail...I had pre-ordered my copy of Shut Out by Kody Keplinger (the author of The DUFF , which is a book I continuously praise!); and even though the book isn't supposed to be released until September 5th...I guess Barnes and Noble made a mistake and sent out the book already, and I ended up getting mine yesterday :). Not wanting to give up the opportunity to be one of the first (hopefully...;)) readers of Kody's new book Shut Out , I started reading it almost immediately!  And I finished it this morning! It's pretty rare when I can read a book that fast, because even though I'm a pretty fast reader, most of the time I can pull myself away from a book to go something else...but just like Kody's first book The DUFF , I found myself not being able to put down the Shut Out .  It took me about two hours and I had already been about half way through, and then I continued reading until about 10:30 or 11 p.m. last night, a...
