Erin: Rebel Heart (Dust Lands Trilogy #2) by Moira Young

Image
Hi There! Today I've got a review of Rebel Heart  by Moira Young, the second in the Dustlands Trilogy! As you might remember, I read Blood Read Road  about a year and a half ago! I initially started reading Rebel Heart  right after finishing Blood Red Road , but I got distracted with some other books and didn't really get back to it until I got this sudden urge to read it again! From Goodreads : Saba thought her world would return to normal after they defeated the Tonton and rescued her kidnapped brother Lugh. The family head west for a better life and a longed-for reunion with Jack. But a formidable enemy is on the rise. What is the truth about Jack? And how far will Saba go to get what she wants? Erin's Thoughts: Wow! I had completely forgotten how good these books were! They're so immersive! Every time, I get drawn into the world and the characters and the language!  After reading a ton of fantasy and not too much else, Rebel Heart  was just perfec...

Guest Review from Desirae: Nil (Nil #1) by Lynne Matson

Image
Hey Everyone!!!  I am very excited today to share with you a guest review from a book friend I recently met at a signing event.  Desirae is a veracious reader, she's a lot of fun to talk to, and super sweet!  She's been thinking about starting her own blog, but isn't sure yet; so I offered her the chance to write a guest review for The Romance Bookie first, and then see how she feels about it :).   So everyone, please welcome Desirae with her review of Nil by Lynne Matson! From Goodreads : On the mysterious island of Nil, the rules are set. You have one year. Exactly 365 days--to escape, or you die. Seventeen-year-old Charley doesn’t know the rules. She doesn’t even know where she is. The last thing she remembers is blacking out, and when she wakes up, she’s lying naked in an empty rock field. Lost and alone, Charley finds no sign of other people until she meets Thad, the gorgeous leader of a clan of teenage refugees. Soon Charley learns that lea...

Erin: The Young Elites (The Young Elites #1) by Marie Lu

Image
Hi Everyone!!  I hope everyone had a great holiday season and hope you are having a great new year!   The Young Elites  is a new fantasy series by Marie Lu, the author of the Legend  trilogy! Having absolutely loved Legend , this was a book I was really looking forward to!  I mean, an awesome new fantasy written by Marie Lu! I'm totally down for it! From Goodreads : I am tired of being used, hurt, and cast aside. Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever.  A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina’s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Her cruel father believes she is a malfetto, an abomination, ruining their family’s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just sc...

Movie Review: Divergent

Image
Hey Everyone!! Here's another movie review!! So again, just like The Maze Runner   which I reviewed today as well, we watched Divergent  for Christmas!  Now, I actually saw this one when it was in theaters, but for some reason I guess I completely forgot to review it! Description and picture from  IMDb : In a world divided by factions based on virtues, Tris learns she's Divergent and won't fit in. When she discovers a plot to destroy Divergents, Tris and the mysterious Four must find out what makes Divergents dangerous before it's too late. My Thoughts: Just like the first time, the second time I saw Divergent  it was still really good!  We actually own this one now, it was a Christmas present, so I can watch whenever!! Anyway, another Dystopian, where I couldn't get into the book.  To be fair, I may have not been in the mind set when I first started reading this one, but I also own it on Audiobook, so maybe one day I'll give...

Movie Review: The Maze Runner

Image
MERRY CHRISTMAS EVERYONE!!! Wow, I can't believe it's already Christmas!! 2014 is almost over!! I just can't wrap my head around it! So my family has a tradition, where every year for Christmas Day we spend the day in our PJs watching movies all day and eating left overs from our Christmas Eve/my mom's birthday party.   So we first started the day with The Maze Runner , which yes I will admit, I have not read the book.  I know, I know, that is probably pretty terrible for some of you, but honestly while I'm not a huge fan of Dystopian books, I've read quite a few and just can't get into them, I still enjoy watching the movie adaptations.   So for my review, because I haven't read the book, I am solely going to base it on my opinion of the movie, with absolutely no bias toward the book! Description and picture from  IMDb : Thomas is deposited in a community of boys after his memory is erased, soon learning they're all tr...

Guest Review from Erin: What's Left of Me (The Hybrid Chronicles #1) by Kat Zhang

Image
Hey Everyone!! From Goodreads : I should not exist. But I do. Eva and Addie started out the same way as everyone else—two souls woven together in one body, taking turns controlling their movements as they learned how to walk, how to sing, how to dance. But as they grew, so did the worried whispers. Why aren’t they settling? Why isn’t one of them fading? The doctors ran tests, the neighbors shied away, and their parents begged for more time. Finally Addie was pronounced healthy and Eva was declared gone. Except, she wasn’t . . . For the past three years, Eva has clung to the remnants of her life. Only Addie knows she’s still there, trapped inside their body. Then one day, they discover there may be a way for Eva to move again. The risks are unimaginable-hybrids are considered a threat to society, so if they are caught, Addie and Eva will be locked away with the others. And yet . . . for a chance to smile, to twirl, to speak, Eva will do anything. Erin's Thoughts: What...

Random Post #8: My Thoughts on the Dystopian Genre

Hey Everyone!! So this is one of those random posts I was talking about, where it may not be a book review, but just a discussion on something book related! So while back in 2008-2010 the vampire craze was all the rage, in the last couple of years the Dystopian genre has taken over! While I'll be honest, I don't necessarily get into all the crazes, I like a book not because of how popular it is, but because I truly enjoyed reading it.  It was like that with Twilight . I didn't like all vampire books because I liked Twilight !  In fact, I could name at least one vampire book that I read that I could not stand one bit (* cough * The Vampire Diaries  * cough *). Anyway, the Dystopian genre...it's huge right now!  We've got big blockbusters being made like The Hunger Games  and the upcoming much anticipated by many Divergent . Now what do I think of the genre? Well, personally I will admit it isn't my favorite. I have probably mentioned this quite a fe...

Requiem (#3 in the Delirium Trilogy) by Lauren Oliver (ARC Review)

Image
***WARNING *** WILL CONTAIN SPOILERS FROM PREVIOUS BOOKS IN SERIES, AND POSSIBLY THIS ONE!!!*** Thanks to Epic Reads I won an ARC of Requiem for watching the Lauren Oliver chat a few weeks ago!  From Goodreads : They have tried to squeeze us out, to stamp us into the past . But we are still here. And there are more of us every day . Now an active member of the resistance, Lena has been transformed. The nascent rebellion that was under way in Pandemonium has ignited into an all-out revolution in Requiem, and Lena is at the center of the fight. After rescuing Julian from a death sentence, Lena and her friends fled to the Wilds. But the Wilds are no longer a safe haven—pockets of rebellion have opened throughout the country, and the government cannot deny the existence of Invalids. Regulators now infiltrate the borderlands to stamp out the rebels, and as Lena navigates the increasingly dangerous terrain, her best friend, Hana, lives a safe, loveless l...

Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi Review

Image
So I've been waiting to get my hands on Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi for many months! I've heard SOOOO many great things about it, and I just knew I had to read it! Description via Goodreads : I don't really get why she is wearing that dress?? But the cover still looks pretty awesome!! Juliette hasn’t touched anyone in exactly 264 days. The last time she did, it was an accident, but The Reestablishment locked her up for murder. No one knows why Juliette’s touch is fatal. As long as she doesn’t hurt anyone else, no one really cares. The world is too busy crumbling to pieces to pay attention to a 17-year-old girl. Diseases are destroying the population, food is hard to find, birds don’t fly anymore, and the clouds are the wrong color. The Reestablishment said their way was the only way to fix things, so they threw Juliette in a cell. Now so many people are dead that the survivors are whispering war– and The Reestablishment has changed its mind. Maybe Julie...

Pandemonium by Lauren Oliver

Image
First off, before I start off this review, I have to get something off my chest: DO YOU SEE THAT EYE??? Isn't that freaky??!! Okay, I felt like there was a demon eye staring at me the entire time I was reading Pandemonium !! And in some lighting areas the eye looked BLACK!!!!  SUPER freaky!! So NOW to the review: ***WARNING!!! MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FROM FIRST BOOK IN SERIES DELIRIUM *** I'm going to be using the description from Goodreads : "I'm pushing aside the memory of my nightmare, pushing aside thoughts of Alex, pushing aside thoughts of Hana and my old school, push, push, push, like Raven taught me to do. The old life is dead. But the old Lena is dead too. I buried her. I left her beyond a fence, behind a wall of smoke and flame. Lauren Oliver delivers an electrifying follow-up to her acclaimed New York Times bestseller, Delirium. This riveting, brilliant novel crackles with the fire of fierce defiance, forbidden romance,...

Specials by Scott Westerfeld

***WARNING!!! MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS FROM PREVIOUS NOVELS IN THE UGLIES SERIES*** I really hope I don't get any haters for this post...but I want to be honest with you all...I did NOT like Specials (third book in the Uglies series) by Scott Westerfeld. I started over a month ago, and I was SOOOOO bored during the first 200 pages.  I ended up putting the book down about half way through, because I was so frustrated and read other books in between that time. Well, the other day, after I finished Wonder Struck by Brian Selznick , I decided it was time to pick it up again and get it over with. So first here is the description from Goodreads, (which I normally don't like to do, unless I can't do the description justice, but in this case, I just don't want to give this book the time of day, anymore) : "Special Circumstances": The words have sent chills down Tally's spine since her days as a repellent, rebellious ugly. Back then Specials were a siniste...
