A Good Girl's Guide to Murder (A Good Girl's Guide to Murder #1) by Holly Jackson

Image
Hey Everyone! I've got some catching up to do!  Hopefully, more reviews will be up very soon, as I've got a list of ones I need to read, for some of the books I've read this year.   I know I am late to the game, but a friend and I have decided to start our little book club together, and for our first book we chose A Good Girl's Guide to Murder  by Holly Jackson. This one has been on my radar for a few months now, mainly because of finding my love for YA Murder-Mystery/Thrillers last year.  I understand, it's been hyped about for quite some time now, but I finally got to find out why. From Goodreads: For readers of Kara Thomas and Karen McManus, an addictive, twisty crime thriller with shades of Serial  and Making a Murderer  about a closed local murder case that doesn't add up, and a girl who's determined to find the real killer -- but not everyone wants her meddling in the past. Everyone in Fairview knows the story. Pretty and popular high school sen...

One of Us is Next (One of Us is Lying #2) by Karen M McManus (Audiobook)

Image
Hey Everyone! Alright, time for the review of book 2 of the One of Us Is Lying series by Karen M. McManus, One of Us Is Next !   From Goodreads: Come on, Bayview, you know you've missed this.  A ton of copycat gossip apps have popped up since Simon died, but in the year since the Bayview four were cleared of his shocking death, no one's been able to fill the gossip void quite like he could. The problem is no one has the facts. Until now. This time it's not an app, though--it's a game. Truth or Dare. Phoebe's  the first target. If you choose to play, it's a truth. And hers is dark. Then comes Maeve  and she should know better--always choose the dare. But by the time Knox  is about to be tagged, things have gotten dangerous. The dares have become deadly, and if Maeve learned anything from Bronwyn last year, it's that they can't count on the police for help. Or protection. Simon's gone, but someone's determined to keep his legacy at Bayview High al...

One of Us is Lying (One of Us is Lying #1) by Karen M McManus (Audiobook)

Hey Everyone! I can't believe I forgot to write a review for this one!  It was so good!  I started listening to it while on my trip, and finished it last week!   One of Us is Lying , the first book in the series by the same name, by Karen M McManus.  From Goodreads: Pay close attention and you might solve this. On Monday afternoon, five students at Bayview High walk into detention. Bronwyn, the brain , is Yale-bound and never breaks a rule. Addy, the beauty , is the picture-perfect homecoming princess. Nate, the criminal , is already on probation for dealing. Cooper, the athlete , is the all-star baseball pitcher. And Simon, the outcast , is the creator of Bayview High's notorious gossip app. Only, Simon never makes it out of that classroom. Before the end of detention Simon's dead. And according to investigators, his death wasn't an accident. On Monday, he died. But on Tuesday, he'd planned to post juicy reveals about all four of his high-profile classmates, w...

No Offense (Little Bridge Island Series #2)

Image
Hey Everyone! I took a little break from reading this weekend, to go the opening of Disneyland.  My husband and I took our son and got to be there from Thursday through Monday.  We had the best time, and it didn't leave much time (or any) for reading.  But today, I ended up just reading every chance I got, and just zoomed through Meg Cabot's second book in the Little Bridge Island Series . From Goodreads:  A broken engagement only gave Molly Montgomery additional incentive to follow her dream job from the Colorado Rockies to the Florida Keys.  Now, as Little Bridge Island Public Library's head of children's services, Molly hopes the messiest thing in her life will be her sticky-note covered desk.  But fate-- in the form of a newborn left in the restroom-- has other ideas.  So does the sheriff who comes to investigates the "abandonment".  The man's arrogance is almost as distracting as his blue eyes. Almost... Recently divorced, John has been...

Erin: The Last Time We Say Goodbye by Cynthia Hand

Image
Hello!  A new book from the author of the Unearthly Trilogy -- Cynthia Hand! This is a vastly different book from Unearthly .  It's a much heavier subject matter and it's a contemporary -- although it does involve a ghost...Anyways, here is my review below! From Goodreads : There's death all around us. We just don't pay attention. Until we do. The last time Lex was happy, it was before. When she had a family that was whole. A boyfriend she loved. Friends who didn't look at her like she might break down at any moment. Now she's just the girl whose brother killed himself. And it feels like that's all she'll ever be. As Lex starts to put her life back together, she tries to block out what happened the night Tyler died. But there's a secret she hasn't told anyone-a text Tyler sent, that could have changed everything. Lex's brother is gone. But Lex is about to discover that a ghost doesn't have to be real to keep you from moving on. Fr...

Guest Review from Erin: Blue Lily, Lily Blue (The Raven Cycle #3) by Maggie Stiefvater

Image
All right!! The third book in the Maggie Stiefvater AMAZING Raven Cycle Series !!  This review is going to be short and sweet cause...well, it's just beyond words!!! The Raven Cycle is ABSOLUTELY one of my favorite series ever and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone!!! Seriously, you will not regret it!!! From Goodreads: There is danger in dreaming. But there is even more danger in waking up. Blue Sargent has found things. For the first time in her life, she has friends she can trust, a group to which she can belong. The Raven Boys have taken her in as one of their own. Their problems have become hers, and her problems have become theirs. The trick with found things though, is how easily they can be lost. Friends can betray. Mothers can disappear. Visions can mislead. Certainties can unravel. Erin's Review: Let's start with Gansey.  AAAAHHHH!!! I LOVE HIM SO MUCH!!! He is hands down my favorite male character, especially as a romantic interest.  ...

Guest Review from Erin: We Were Liars by E. Lockhart

Image
Hi Everyone! Today I've got a review for We Were Liars , a book that I'd been hearing about a lot over this past summer! I finally got a chance to read it! From Goodreads: A beautiful and distinguished family. A private island. A brilliant, damaged girl; a passionate, political boy. A group of four friends—the Liars—whose friendship turns destructive. A revolution. An accident. A secret. Lies upon lies. True love. The truth.   We Were Liars  is a modern, sophisticated suspense novel from National Book Award finalist and Printz Award honoree E. Lockhart.  Read it. And if anyone asks you how it ends, just LIE. Erin's Thoughts: We Were Liars  was definitely not what I expected.  Other than reading the book flap, I tried not to learn too much about what the book was about because I heard that the less you know going into the book, the better.  So, of course, if you feel the same way, feel free not to read this review, but I will do my best not to gi...

Golden by Jessi Kirby (ARC)

Image
I can't believe this was my first Jessi Kirby book ever!  Seriously? How is that possible?! Now I know 100% that I need to get my hands on her book In Honor !! I got to meet Jessi last year at Passion and Prose actually, where she was passing out signed post cards for In Honor , and while she would most likely not remember me, I remember her being such a sweetheart! So when I got the opportunity through Edelweiss to read her newest book Golden , I jumped on the chance! :) From  Goodreads : Love, tragedy, and mystery converge in this compelling novel from “an author to watch” (Booklist). Seventeen-year-old Parker Frost has never taken the road less traveled. Valedictorian and quintessential good girl, she’s about to graduate high school without ever having kissed her crush or broken the rules. So when fate drops a clue in her lap—one that might be the key to unraveling a town mystery—she decides to take a chance. Julianna Farnetti and Shane Cruz are remembered as th...

Lip Service by MJ Rose Review

Image
***WARNING!!!! MATURE EYES ONLY!! CONTAINS SEMI-GRAPHIC ADULT SCENES!!!*** Okay so I'm just going to come out and say it... Lip Service ??  That sounds pretty gross right?? Well, what a surprise I was in for!! And let me just tell you I'm SOOOO glad it wasn't what I thought it meant!! So anyway, Lip Service by MJ Rose was originally released in 1999, and while it has been compared to the NYT Bestselling series Fifty Shades of Grey EL James, let us all do the math...If Lip Service was originally released in 1999 and Fifty Shades in 2011, shouldn't we be comparing Fifty Shades to Lip Service , not the other way around??? Anyhow, to be honest I don't actually know why they have been compared, because other than similarity in genre... Erotica, they are both completely different novels! Description from Goodreads : Lip Service is the prequel to M.J. Rose's Bestselling Butterfield Institute Series which includes three novels - The Halo Eff...

'Scuse me While I Kill This Guy by Leslie Langtry review (SWUR #3)

Image
For my third book in the Summer Wrap-Up Read-a-thon (hosted by Jude @In Between & Jen @ Some Like It Paranormal ) I read 'Scuse Me While I Kill This Guy (#1 in the Bombay Assassins) by Leslie Langtry!   I was given this book at the beginning of last month from the author for review.  Overall, let me be honest here, at first the only reason why I said yes to reviewing this one, is because of the title.  I mean come on?  Who can NOT laugh at that?! Before I go into my thoughts let me tell you a little more about it... Virginia Bombay (aka Gin...haha real funny...you immature people for laughing at the joke...lol ;)) is living a pretty satisfactory life.  She's got money (in fact she's got quite the hefty trust fund), she's raising a beautiful five year old daughter,  and she's an assassin?? Yes, you read that correct.  Gin is an assassin.  In fact, her ENTIRE family is!  It runs in their genes.  From the age of ...

Twisted by Sara Shepard (Pretty Little Liars #9,000)

Image
So it's been almost two years since I last read a Pretty Little Liars book.  I've had Twisted sitting on my bookshelf since its release last July!  This series was supposed to be over with Number 8!!! BUT NO!!! Sara Shepard decided to write ANOTHER 4!!! This December, FINALLY, the 12th and final Pretty Little Liars is being released (at least, I'm really hoping it's the last! In fact I've been hoping for the last book for the past 7 flipping years!!! Sara Shepard if I could just say one thing to you...YOU ARE KILLING ME!!!!!!!!!!!!! Okay, so let's begin... So for those of you who haven't read the series, or seen the TV show (which btw, is WAY different than the books!!, but sort of gives you the overall idea of the series) then I'd recommend you not reading this description and review, because might be SPOILERS!!! That is a warning!!! So anyway, before I give away way too much about what happened in this book here's G...

If I Were You by Lisa Renee Jones (ARC)

Image
If I Were You by Lisa Renee, won't be released until August 24th, but upon the request of the publisher and author, and hearing what it was about, I was definitely intrigued, and excited to get my hands on this book! And let me just say, I was not disappointed! Before I go on and on about what this book is about, I'll just give you the Goodreads description, so I can actually talk more about what I thought! Fifty Shades of Grey meets Basic Instinct Book 1: If I Were You Book 2: Being Me Book 3: Revealing Us About IF I WERE YOU… How it began… One day I was a high school teacher on summer break, leading a relatively uneventful but happy life. Or so I told myself. Later, I’d question that, as I would question pretty much everything I knew about me, my relationships, and my desires. It all began when my neighbor thrust a key to a storage unit at me. She’d bought it to make extra money after watching some storage auction show. Now she was on her way to the airp...

Still on My Mind #10

Image
Still on My Mind is a weekly meme, featured on Thursday, started by Haley over at Ya-Aholic , where you discuss a book you've either recently read, or read over the past few years, that's still on your mind. Because I just finished Two for the Dough , I've got Stephanie Plum on the brain!  That's why for this weeks choice for Still on My Mind I've decided to choose One for the Money by Janet Evanovich, which is the first in the Stephanie Plum series. While I'm out on the hunt for book three, Three to Get Deadly , I've got no other choice but just keep me going by the hilarious afterthoughts of reading both One for the Money and Two for the Dough . Goodreads Description: Welcome to Trenton, New Jersey, home to wiseguys, average Joes, and Stephanie Plum, who sports a big attitude and even bigger money problems (since losing her job as a lingerie buyer for a department store). Stephanie needs cash--fast--but times are tough, and soon she's ...
