Guest Review from Desirae: Nil (Nil #1) by Lynne Matson

Image
Hey Everyone!!!  I am very excited today to share with you a guest review from a book friend I recently met at a signing event.  Desirae is a veracious reader, she's a lot of fun to talk to, and super sweet!  She's been thinking about starting her own blog, but isn't sure yet; so I offered her the chance to write a guest review for The Romance Bookie first, and then see how she feels about it :).   So everyone, please welcome Desirae with her review of Nil by Lynne Matson! From Goodreads : On the mysterious island of Nil, the rules are set. You have one year. Exactly 365 days--to escape, or you die. Seventeen-year-old Charley doesn’t know the rules. She doesn’t even know where she is. The last thing she remembers is blacking out, and when she wakes up, she’s lying naked in an empty rock field. Lost and alone, Charley finds no sign of other people until she meets Thad, the gorgeous leader of a clan of teenage refugees. Soon Charley learns that lea...

Guest Post from Erin: Meeting Brodi Ashton, Jodi Meadows, and Cynthia Hand!

Image
Hey Everyone! Brodi Ashton ( Everneath Series), Jodi Meadows ( Incarnate Series ), Cynthia Hand ( Unearthly Series ) Book Event!! Can you believe it? All three of those authors together in one event!!!! Aah!!! It was basically my dream come true!! Yay!! So I had been waiting for this event for a long time!! I actually emailed Jodi Meadows telling her how amazing she and her books are (cause I'm a dork like that) and then I casually  mentioned that she should stop by Salt Lake City, should she get the chance!! To my delight, Jodi emailed me back and told me that she, Brodi and Cynthia were meeting up in SLC for a writing retreat and that they would be planning an event!! I was so excited!! I, of course, immediately took credit for this phenomenon and told everyone (aka my mom) that I emailed an author and asked her to come to SLC and she totally granted my request!! Okay, so I massaged the truth a little, but still, cool, huh?? So, needless to say, I was SO EXCITED for this ...

Guest Post from Erin!!! Author Event featuring Kami Garcia, Margaret Stohl, Shannon Hale and So Many Others! :)

Image
From Erin: So last Tuesday I was able to attend the launching event for Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl's new book Dangerous Creatures !! So a lot of you probably know this, but this is a spin off series from Beautiful Creatures  featuring Lena's cousin Ridley (and Link)! The event was JUST AWESOME!! Not only were Kami and Margaret there, but the amazing Shannon Hale, author of Goose Girl , was the mediator!! And in addition to the panel members, Ally Condie ( Matched ), Ann Dee Ellis ( The End or Something Like That ), Christina Hobbs aka the Christina of Christina Lauren ( Sweet Filthy Boy ), and some others!! I got to talk to Ally Condie and tell her how much I love her books, but unfortunately I haven't read Ann Dee Ellis, and I didn't even recognize Christina Lauren until way afterwards, although I haven't read her books either :(.  There was also a band, Dom Liberati, that played during the signing. From Left to Right: Kami Garcia, ...

Introducing Erin!!!!

Hey Everyone!! So as some of you may have noticed, my posts have been extremely sporadic this past year!  I've been so crazy busy, with school, my two jobs, starting a relationship, friends, and lets just say life in general! That being said, I still read as much as possible, and while I wish I could read more, there are just not enough hours in the day to do everything!   I've been toying with this idea for a few months now, and while I've been a bit skeptical, because The Romance Bookie is my baby.  I've been doing this for three and a half years now, I've put A LOT of hard work into her!  But I've come to a realization...it isn't fair for her to go down!  The Romance Bookie needs more attention!! Last month, at the Festival of Books, I was waiting in life for Marissa Meyer, when I started talking to the girl in line in front of me.  She was so nice! I found out, like me, she's a fan of books, of course, and  like me doesn't have any ...

Wanderlust Blog Tour! (Guest Post)

Hello Everyone! :) Today I'd like to welcome Elieba Levine! :) She's been awesome, and made a guest post for all of us! :) She's hear celebrating the release of her book Wanderlust !! :) So please welcome Elieba!! As far back as I can remember I always wanted to travel the world.  Exotic places, different clothing, unknown smells, foreign languages forever intrigued me, and still do. As soon as I got the opportunity I left the U.S. to see the world and all the places I had dreamed of. I was away for six months and they were the happiest and most interesting six months of my life. Upon my return, lunching with my editor in New York I  described the many intriguing moments of my trip.  She suggested that I use my travels and experiences as a backdrop to an erotic novel.  I agreed and that is how Wanderlust came to be written. The book sold so well that two other books followed.....Interludes and Escapes. Therefore the trip became a success in many areas of my l...

Kimberly S. Young Guest Post (author of "The Eighth Wonder")

Image
Hey Everyone! Today I would like to welcome Kimberly S. Young, the author of The Eighth Wonder ! A modern Bridges of Madison County, Nicole Benson, 35, is an ambitious college professor with dreams of teaching at an Ivy-league university until she falls in love with Tom Ryan, 44, married 23 years and shattered by his daughter’s death from leukemia. As a psychologist, I have counseled men and women struggling with extramarital attractions and understand the emotional conflicts those endure who deeply value fidelity but still feel the pull of falling in love with another, even when one party or the other appears to be happily married. These experiences led me to write The Eighth Wonder. I was homebound for almost five months recovering from retina re-attachment surgery. This was very serious. I had surgery in both eyes.  All the surgeon could say was that it was “in God’s hands now” because my left retina almost completely fell off before it was detected. I was scared...

Steven Manchester Guest Post, (Goodnight Brian)

Image
Good Day everyone!   Today I'm featuring Steven Manchester on The Romance Bookie!  His new book Goodnight Brian is out tomorrow!                                                        Goodnight Brian diagnosis excerpt Brian was eleven months old when Doctor Alexander summoned the Mauretti family into his office to deliver the final verdict. Mama insisted that she be there. No one objected. It was a late winter afternoon, a howling wind knocking on blocks of ice that were once windows. Doctor Alexander sat behind his tidy desk, looking distressed. Joan nearly cried when she saw his demeanor and immediately leaned on Frank for support. Avoiding initial eye contact, the young doctor was clearly having trouble offering his prognosis. He cleared his throat and finally reported, “We’ve discovered th...

Unmasking Maya Blog Tour (Guest Post)

Image
Good Day everyone! :) Today I'm a stop on Libby Mercer's Book tour for her new novel Unmasking Maya !! I'm super excited to get the chance to read this one! It looks super cute! Anyway, today I'd like all of you please welcome Libby! :) TOTO, I DON’T THINK WE’RE IN SAN FRANCISCO ANYMORE My muse is a stubborn old hag. Earlier this year, when I got the idea for Unmasking Maya, I had some serious doubts about whether I’d be able to pull it off. As a technologically-challenged artsy type, was I really up for writing a love story set in Silicon Valley and creating a hero who’s an IT genius? I wasn’t so sure, but my muse would not shut up about it. And so I surrendered. A few months later, I had completed the story. The only problem was the manuscript was littered with things like “insert tech speak here” and “doing something computery”. I knew I needed to talk to an expert. Fortunately, I know someone at Google. Well, sort of. I hadn’t actually seen him in ...

Gilded Angels: The Angel Chronicles Book 2 Guest Post from Amy Lignor

Image
Today I would like welcome Amy Lignor, the author of the Angel Chronicles! The second book in the series just came out early this month, it's called Gilded Wings ! I'm so looking forward to reading it, especially since I enjoyed book 1 ( Until Next Time ) so much! ( Review here! ) Anyway so today please help me welcome Amy Lignor with her guest post! :)                                  Technology is Not the Only Form of Inspiration Ever since Mark Zuckerberg appeared and turned the world upside down with Facebook, the younger generation was seen by some as only the age of Youtube, Facebook, cell phones, iPods and video games. But what people don’t seem to understand is that in the last decade+, they have become the largest group of readers in the world. The young adult genre became huge. It literally exploded with ...

Christine Nolfi Guest Post & GIVEAWAY (author of "Second Chance Grill")

Image
Hey Everyone!! Let me just start off by saying "UGH!!" I hate the end of Daylight Savings!!!  I hate it that it gets so early dark, and that right now it is only 7:11 on a Sunday!!!  And I woke up at 5:30!!!  Ridiculous!! Anyway, to make this early morning a bit better I've got a special treat today!! A Guest Post from the author of Second Chance Grill Christine Nolfi, AND a GIVEAWAY for both a US AND International winner!!! Anyway, please welcome Christine Nolfi!!! After publishing three novels and enjoying many 5-star reviews I still catch myself wondering, How did I arrive here? Like many novelists I thought the road to publication involved a literary agent, the perfect pitch, and a New York editor. Once upon a time, that was the only path. And, believe me, I followed every rule listed for succeeding in the traditional method. I managed a PR firm and honed my skills writing public relations copy for companies. When I began writing fiction full-time, I pro...

Meredith Schorr (A State of Jane) Guest Post

Image
Hey Everyone!! It's Friday!!!! Today I've got a special Guest Post by Meredith Schorr, the author of A State of Jane !! :) In both of my novels, my main character is a single woman whose mother is very much involved in my heroine’s quest to be not-so-single.  This involvement is not sought out by or welcomed by my main character, but despite all efforts to keep things on a need-to-know basis, both mothers inevitably know everything.  In my first book, Just Friends with Benefits, thirty-two-year-old Stephanie Cohen, despite being attractive, intelligent and a lot of fun, can’t seem to keep a relationship together for more than 3.5 months.  Her mother, Susan, wants nothing more than for Stephanie to settle down and give her another grandchild.  (Stephanie’s older brother already provided her with one.) No matter what other topic of conversation arises, the NFL standings, another family member’s birthday, a promotion, Susan always manages to ask her favorite quest...

Guest post from Meradeth Houston author of "Colors Like Memories"

Hey everyone! So I've got some exciting news! Today I've got a special guest, here on The Romance Bookie, Meradeth Houston, who has kindly written a guest post in honor of release of Colors Like Memories ! :) So please give a warm welcome to... Meradeth Houston!! First off, thanks a million for hosting me today! I thought I’d talk a little bit about some of the things that led me to write Colors Like Memories :) I’ve always been kind of captivated by the past. In high school, I loved my history classes (probably because I had the luck of an awesome teacher). Historical novels always leave me wondering what it would really be like to live in a different time, a different place, a different era. I really hope I’m not alone in this sentiment! I keep bugging my physicist hubby to build a time machine, so we can check a few things out. I have a running list of places to visit, if that actually (haha!) ever happens: -Victorian England. Yes, I’d hate wearing corsets and all t...
