The Fortunes of Indigo Skye
Deb Caleti, also the author of Honey, Baby, Sweetheart; came up with a story, based on something most of us average people have always wanted lots of...MONEY!
Just kidding...sort of...I mean, we all have that dream, of wanting fortunes beyond belief. Fortunes where we don't have to worry about a budget, or realizing that we will never be able to buy that absolutely gorgeous Louis Vuitton suitcase (a personal dream of mine...I know lame...haha), or for a guy that beautiful classic Porsche they've wanted to sit in their garage. No matter what we want, most of the time we always have at least one thing we can't get our hands on, because that one thing is stopping you...money.
Well, Indigo Skye's life was exactly like that. She worked in a Diner as a waitress, a job she absolutely loved!, her mother was single, and raising her twin brother, her little sister, and Indigo, on her own, while her father had run off a few years earlier to Hawaii, to be with his new wife and his newly found dream of opening a rental surf shop on the beach. Her family was struggling to pay the bills and rent every month, and their car was a piece of junk.
However, Indigo wasn't unhappy. She wasn't the type of person to waste her time on materialistic things...that is...until a customer left her a TWO POINT FIVE MILLION DOLLAR TIP!!!!
We've all either read about it, seen movies on it, or even experienced it first hand, so most of us know that money can be evil! It changes us. When people get more money, they become "better" and want "better" things. In other words, a lot of the times they become cocky. I'm not saying this happens to everyone that runs across some extra money, but it does happen (I mean seriously, just watch that show on the curse of winning the lottery!! It's creepy!!).
Surprisingly, though, even though everyone around Indigo made such a big deal about it, she, herself, didn't want to be that person that changed.
To be honest, the first 3/4 of the book were a bit slow for me. I liked the story, and I like Indigo (she has such an awesome name!!). I thought great how she loved her life, even though a lot of other people would have considered it to suck. She was unusual, but in a good way...for instance, she actually wanted to stay a waitress for the rest of her life. My favorite part of the book was probably the last 50-60 pages. Indigo discovers a lot about herself and the people around her; and it inspires her to change some things in her life.
