True Love Way by Nancy Strofano

For my latest book I read True Love Way by Nancy Strofano.  It's the story of Marlo Spencer, a 29, almost 30, year old woman who gets an email from her high school sweetheart, Josh,  who broke her heart 12 years ago, and wants to see her so they can discuss the Pact.

The Pact?
What is it, you may be asking?

Well, it's this thing that Marlo and Josh agreed where they decided they both weren't married by the time they were thirty and still single, that they would marry each other.

Let's just say, a lot has changed in 12 years.  Marlo no longer lives in Napa, for one.  Second, she owns her own dance studio now.  And has a cute little apartment all to herself in Malibu.

But that doesn't stop Marlo from wanting to see Josh, the man she hasn't stopped thinking about since that day 12 years ago, when he took off to Paris without a goodbye.

Along with her best friend Nik (short for Phoenix), they head out on the road and drive the seven hours, passing through Solvang, to Napa.

Once there, thing don't go quite the way Marlo imagined.  She doesn't get her happily ever after with Josh...instead old and new secrets are revealed, one involving her other best friend, who also happens to be Nik's sister, Savannah.

It's going to be a tough week, with true feelings revealed, and even some possible life altering decisions come up that need to be made.

What will Marlo do??

All I will say is that Marlo definitely may be a shoe-in for her happily-ever-after...
True Love Way

My Thoughts:

Overall, the story was cute!  I thought it was a good easy reader, a nice chick-lit to keep going in the week.
I did have a few problems with the characters though...

For instance, Marlo...I think she took the secret-that-is-revealed-that-I-can't-say-what-it-is-because-it-will-spoil-everything WAYYYY too well!  I would have FREAKED! And to be honest, I don't think I would have wanted anything to do with the people it involved!  It was unacceptable!  At the very least my friendship with those people would never be the same as it had been before.

Second, Marlo's love for Retro (she loves oldies TV shows, movies, music, etc) was cute, however, being a thirty year old woman living on cloud nine for your entire life?? Hmm...a little annoying once in a while.

Another thing, all Marlo ever ate in this book was junk food!! And yet, she has this perfect dancing figure?? I'm not so sure about that...

On to the next character...

Josh...OH MY GOODNESS!!! Man, I wanted to punch that guy throughout the book!  What is that guys problem! 12 years gone, and just expects Marlo to be waiting for him??  While he went off and made mistakes! Yeah, I don't think so!  What he did to Marlo...unacceptable!!!

Next...
Nik, really liked him! I felt sorry for him throughout the entire novel, because all that ever happened was that he got dragged into everything!  Poor guy, but definitely sounded absolutely gorgeous!! With his dark hair, and navy blue eyes...hmmm...lovely ;)...

And Savannah...okay, girl, this chick....ugh...I can't say it, because it would just ruin the story behind this book!!

But anyway, overall, the drama, as you may have been able to tell from my ranting above, is immense!  Drama here, Drama there!  It never stops.  I will say, this is a very unrealistic chick-lit book.  I mean, I loved some of the cheesiness, but some of it got to be a bit much for me once in a while.  I found myself rolling my eyes numerous times.  I will say it was a fun easy read, that I may pick up again one day just to take my mind off of read life.  It's definitely a book to take to your own cloud nine place! :)

So if you like cheesy romantic comedies, with a cute story that will have you laughing, cringing from the drama, but at the same time rooting for the characters, then I definitely recommend picking up this one!

True Love Way by Nancy Strofano can be found on Barnes and Noble (online) and Amazon!

Thanks everyone and Happy Friday! :)

  1. I read this book and felt the same exact way. I kind of felt that Marlo was a tad bit clueless. That whole situation with Josh and then the bigger situation made me groan. Overall, it's an okay read.

    1. Yes completely agree! Marlo didn't seem to have a concept of what life is really like, I felt.

    2. I feel that I would have liked this book better if it were written as a YA.

    3. You know that would have been better, you're right. Because then at least the character's whole "young at heart" bit would have been a bit more believable.

    4. Marlo wouldnt come off as clueless or immature if she would have been a teen. But thats kind of expected at a young age.

    5. Yes that would probably have been better! :)
