Twilight Week Day 5 (Breaking Dawn)

TODAY'S THE DAY!!! I'm seeing the movie this morning! And let me just tell you, I feel like I'm going to cry ALREADY!! I just can't stand the fact that's over!  These past 5 years have meant so much!

Anyway, today is Day 5 of Twilight Week, and that means time for my Breaking Dawn review!

Goodreads Description:

WHEN YOU LOVED THE ONE WHO WAS KILLING YOU, IT LEFT YOU NO OPTIONS. How could you run, how could you fight, when doing so would hurt that beloved one? If your life was all you had to give, how could you not give it? If it was someone you truly loved?

To be irrevocably in love with a vampire is both fantasy and nightmare woven into a dangerously heightened reality for Bella Swan. Pulled in one direction by her intense passion for Edward Cullen, and in another by her profound connection to a werewolf Jacob Black, she has endured a tumultuous year of temptation, loss, and strife to reach the ultimate turning point. her imminent choice to either join the dark but seductive world of immortals or pursue a fully human life has become the thread from which the fate of two tribes hangs.

Now that Bella has made her decision, a startling chain of unprecedented events is about to unfold with potentially devastating and unfathomable consequences. Just when the frayed strands of Bella's life - first discovered in Twilight, then scattered and torn in New Moon and Eclipse - seem ready to heal and knit together, could they be destroyed...forever?

The astonishing, breathlessly anticipated conclusion to the Twilight Saga, Breaking Dawn illuminates the secrets and mysteries of this spellbinding romantic epic that has entranced millions.

My thoughts:
Before I go into my favorite quotes, let me just say that this book is probably my absolute favorite in the series, IF I had to choose.  I know for many, it is their least favorite, but personally I have always thought this book to be amazing!  To be honest, I get EXTREMELY tired of people saying that Stephenie Meyer is a terrible writer, because personally I think she is a pretty darn good writer!  What I love about Breaking Dawn so much, and personally what I believe, is proof that Stephenie is a good writer, is that she has the ability to make it honestly seem like two different people wrote this book.  Bella's part is all Stephenie, and then Jacob's is someone else.  That's how much of a different voice both characters have, when they each get their own point of view told.  Stephenie got into her character's heads so well she was able differentiate both to the point where each had their own voice.  I don't believe there are many authors that can do that in ONE book!

Anyway, now to my favorite quotes: (note: some don't have page numbers, because I chose them from Goodreads.  I haven't had the chance to completely finish BD yet (I've read about a dozen times), but with moving and a bunch of stress going on, I hope to finish it this weekend (I also want to enjoy it as much as possible, and not have to skim through it) That way I can also compare this movie to the second of BD (which is the part I just started!).

So now to the quotes: (WARNING: there are quite a few, but since it is the last one... :))

  • "It made no sense when he looked at me that way.  Like I was the prize rather than the outrageously lucky winner." (pg. 24) (Bella about Edward)
Why?:  Personally, I believe a lot of girls feel this way, especially when they are feeling really low about themselves.  And plus it's just absolutely the cutest thing to imagine how Edward looks at Bella, like she's the only one in the room! :)

  • "'Bachelor parties are designed for those who are sad to see the passing of their single days.  I couldn't be more eager to have mine behind me.'" (Edward to Bella) (pg. 24-25)
Why?: Because I want a man who would say that to me! lol

  • "All I saw was Edward's face; it filled my vision and overwhelmed my mind." (pg. 48) (Bella as she walked down the aisle)
Why?: This is one of those scenes in the book where I believe the movie did it absolute justice, and it just couldn't have come out better!  That wedding was the most gorgeous moment ever!

  • "'But I wouldn't use the word beautiful,' he continued. 'Not with you standing here in comparison.'" (Edward to Bella) pg. 85
 Why?: AWWW!!!!!  SO CUTE!!

  • "'He exhaled impatiently. 'I bit a pillow. Or two. That's not what I'm talking about.'" (pg. 89) (The morning after Bella and Edward's first honeymoon night)
Why?: All right, I'm just going to say it...This book has the BEST honeymoon/sex "scene" ever!! It is the funniest thing ever when they talk about what damage Edward made...ex. The headboard!! HAHAHA!

  • "'So you seduced your all-too willing husband. That's not a capital offense.'" (Edward) (pg. 110)
Why?: So CUTE!! Once again...

  • "It was hard being around imprinted people.  No matter what stage they were in - about to tie the knot like Sam or just a much-abused nanny like Quil - the peace and certainty they always radiated was downright puke-inducing." (pg. 153) (Jacob)
Why?: Admit it!! You have all felt this at one point or another when you're single, and you see all these couples around you...haha

  • "I heard Leah move faster, too. She hated being outrun.  Being the fastest was the only edge she claimed.
Claim this Moron, she hissed, and then she really kicked it into gear." (Jacob and Leah) (pg. 158)

Why?: Haha, Leah is pretty awesome!
  • "Instead of being the A/V dweeb about to ask the head cheerleader to the prom, I was the finished-second-place werewolf about to ask the vampire's wife to shack up and procreate. Nice." (Jacob) (pg. 185)
Why?: Because while Edward was extremely desperate, it was still a cute thought...that's how much he care for Bella!  And this quote was funny!

  • "'Did you know that 'I told you' has a brother, Jacob?' she asked, cutting me off.  'His name is 'Shut the Hell up.'" (Bella) (pg. 188)
Why?: Because I still REALLY want to use this line on someone!!

  • "'You know how you drown a blonde, Rosalie?' I asked without stopping or turning to look at her. 'Glue a mirror to the bottom of a pool.'" (Jacob) pg. 271
Why?: Because even though I'm a blonde (natural one too! I just dye mine a little lighter) I love myself a good blonde joke! lol

  • "'Bella, I love you.  Bella, I'm sorry.'" (Edward to Bella, as she's changing into a vampire) pg. 380
Why?: I love the way Edward talks to Bella.  I love the way he adores her.  That's what makes this such an epic love story, in my opinion.
  • "'The only parents in the world who don't need sleep, and our child already sleeps through the night.' He chuckled." (Edward) (pg. 429)
Why?: Because this was funny, but at the same time really unfair!
  • "Beyond words, I shrieked a growl at him. "'Amazing, isn't she?' I heard Edward murmur." (Bella growling at Jacob, and Edward's response) pg. 450
Why?: HAHA
  • "'You nicknamed my daughter after the Loch Ness Monster?!'" (Bella) (pg. 451)
Why?: You have to admit...come on! That is pretty funny!
  • "'I know - I'll play you for it,' Alice suggested. 'Rock, paper, scissors.' Jasper chuckled and Edward sighed.
'Why don't you just tell me who wins?' Edward said wryly.
Alice beamed. 'I do. Excellent."

Why?: Just love the whole inside humor that the Cullens have with eachother!

  • "'I'm not dangerous at all.  I never hurt Grandpa or Sue or Billy. I love humans. And wolf-people like my Jacob.' Renesmee dropped Edward's hand to reach back and pat Jacob's arm."
Why?: AWWW!! Renesmee is SOOO adorable!!

  • "Whatever end found us, it would not find us separated." (Bella about Edward, before the Volturi came)
Why?: Because this is a perfect quote of why this is such a powerful love story!

  • "'Forever and forever and forever,' he murmured.
'That sounds exactly right to me.'
And then we continued blissfully into this small but perfect piece of our forever." (pg. 754)

Why?: Because these are the last few sentences of the book.  And they just end it perfectly...And they Lived Happily Ever After...

The Romance Bookie :)

Comments

  1. I liked this one a lot as well. I actually went and bought it - originally, a friend had given me New Moon so I had read the 1st Twilight, and then I bought this at Borders (RIP :( ) because I had a 20% off coupon, lol. And then a friend bought me books 1 and 3 in the set because she knew I had 2 and 4!

Also, with the movie: I hear there's a twist - should be interesting. (deviating from the book)

    1. I know me too! I'm not really worried though, because everyone is saying it was a change that was for the best and will have the fans loving the series even more!
And Borders (RIP!) oh, how I miss that beautiful store!! They were the ones that used to hold all the Twilight parties!! And I bought books one at a book fair my high school was holding, and devoured it one day, the book fair was already over by then, so I had to wait to get to the city and pick up 2, and then I was stupid enough NOT to pick up 3, so then I had to wait again!!!, and then I found Breaking Dawn at 20% at Borders, because it had just been released and it was a new Bestseller, so I grabbed that one! :)

  3. I just read the other two comments and I miss Borders too, but my Barnes & Noble threw a twilight party. I remember because it was the midnight release of breaking dawn. And they passed out pins and stickers. And there were some raffles and all sorts of fun things.
