True (#3 in Elixir Trilogy) by Hilary Duff

***WARNING***May contain spoilers, if you haven't read the previous books in series!!!***

Hey!!

So two weeks ago, I got an email from Goodreads letting me know that Hilary Duff's new book True was available NOW!  I started freaking out! I thought I still have time!

I didn't know it was being released in April already! I thought next month or June!  But no, it came out on APRIL 16th!!!! And I missed the preorder!!

So I ended up getting my copy last week, and as soon I finished the book I was reading at the time, I immediately picked up my copy of True!! The Third and FINAL book in the Elixir Trilogy!! :)

I believe I MAY have mentioned this in my reviews for Elixir and Devoted that I was and am a HUGEEEEEEEE Hilary Duff fan!! I was especially when I was growing up!! I still am a fan, and support everything Hilary Duff does in her career, because she was my role model growing up! She was just so awesome!!

Anyway now to review of True... :)

From Goodreads:

The epic love story of Clea and Sage comes to its thrilling conclusion in the final book in the Elixir series by multitalented star Hilary Duff.Following the harrowing events ofElixir and Devoted—and the ceremony that almost killed Sage—Clea faces a new reality: With Sage’s soul in Nico’s body, the love of her life looks an awful lot like her best friend’s boyfriend. Can Clea and Sage really be happy under these circumstances?

Clea wants to try to enjoy their new life together, but Sage is acting different—angry—and she struggles to keep her friends from finding out what has happened to him. Something is clearly haunting Sage, and Clea is losing control. Can she trust her friends with the dangerous truth, or will she have to risk losing Sage to madness?

My Thoughts:

So I actually had the amazing opportunity to have seen Hilary Duff twice in my life, once was for her Gibson Amphitheater, at Universal Studios Hollywood, concert for her Dignity August 15th, 2007 (yes, I still remember the date! Sue me! ;)) Then I also got to meet Hilary Duff when Elixir, the first book in this series came out, on November 11th, 2010...why do I remember that date? Well, it happened to be Veterans Day!

I will admit, while it was 100% NOT Hilary's fault, that book signing has been my least favorite one I've been to.  The people at the store rushed us so much and almost didn't let me get my book signed, because "I didn't buy it there!".  I was the ONLY person in that line who had read it! No joke! Everyone there was mainly there because it was HILARY DUFF, aka Lizzie McGuire!  I had gotten my book in my mail a few weeks earlier when it had been released, and read it right away of course!
I also was like 5th in line at that signing, and had been waiting in line for a few hours!  Hilary was super sweet, I embarrassed myself like crazy, because when I get extremely nervous...okay guys, this never leaves here...I literally start crying!  I cried when I met Hilary Duff!  Yes, I know! I get so much crap for that from my friends!

Anyway, I ALSO got to meet Elise Allen, Hilary's co-author, last February (2012) when I went to Passion and Prose!  I asked Elise the question, that a lot of people have been asking about Hilary's books, "Did she do most of the writing or did you?" (to Elise).  Elise was super awesome, and I actually got to chat with her by myself for like 15 minutes!  She told me Hilary is a true talent, and came up with the story pretty much all on her own! How awesome is that?!

So Hilary can not only sing and act, but she can also write!

ANYWAY!!!! Back on topic here!

So True...finally the ending to a series I have truly enjoyed these past few years!

I thought it was pretty good!  It was shorter than the other two books in the series, but then again Hilary just had her son Luca (he's SOOOOOOO cute!!!! But then again with a pretty mama like that and HOT hunky daddy, that's bound to happen ;)) about a year ago, so has had other things to work on!

This book was a bit different than the first two, because each chapter switched off between Clea's point of view, and her best friend Rayna's.

I will admit, I enjoy Clea's POV more than Rayna.  Rayna is a bit whiny and valley girl for me.  A total space case, getting of topic, which definitely wasn't Hilary's writing, it was how she wanted Rayna to be portrayed!

Other than that, it was interesting!

There was one thing I'm still confused about...maybe I forgot from Devoted, but I honestly thought Clea's father might have still been alive, and they were looking for him??? But it wasn't answered!  So I'm hoping I forgot that part from Devoted, and just spaced myself!

Overall rating:

I liked it!  I thought, over than the part about Clea's father, it had a great ending! Exactly what the readers were hoping for I think.  I will admit I am shocked that Rayna and Clea's relationship survived after what happened between them, but then again, best friends are forever! Right?!

It was cute, and I would definitely recommend it to fans of this series! Plus to those who were Hilary Duff fans growing up! Plus those who are looking for a good fantasy series!

Check it out! :) You can get your copy at Amazon or Barnes and Noble!

  1. So does she actually write her own books? Or does someone ghostwrite it?

    1. I mention in the review, she writes with Elise Allen, however, I asked Elise at Passion and Prose, and she told me Hilary did the majority of the work and that Elise was just sort of there for support and side help. :)

  2. I read the first one, but haven't picked up the sequel. I might now that all of them are out.
