Infinity
I love Sarah Dessen's books. I thought I had read all of them, but when I was on Goodreads.com and searched her name I found a title in there that I have never heard of. It turned out it was short story by Sarah that was published. My hand started itching and forced me to press that "Add to Cart" button on Amazon haha.
Whenever I read short stories, I have noticed that each one has had a point to the story. What I mean by point, is either something like a lesson that is learned or something with double meaning. Infinity has both.
The main character is a sixteen year old teenager who has a very unusual fear...the roundabout. Yes, I mean a real roundabout, like the kind that you find on streets when driving, especially common in places like England :). The reason she has this fear, is because her mom got into an accident the first they drove on this newly built roundabout in their small little town they lived, and got so scared that she never took it again, instead deciding on taking all the long ways around.
The roundabout in the story was significant because it signified choices. At sixteen, she was at that stage in her life where she was going to have to start making her own choices. Like, Do I drive the roundabout, or go around it, taking all the other roads? Or, which colleges do I apply to? Or, should go further with my boyfriend than I feel comfortable with?
Choices are everywhere, and when you hit a certain age, everyone will have to start making their own. Deciding what is right, wrong, what should be done vs. what shouldn't? It's all up to you...
