Fragile Eternity (Wicked Lovely #3) Review
Fragile Eternity (the third in the Wicked Lovely Series) by Melissa Marr, I was glad to find had my favorite characters in it again!
I was disappointed with the sequel to the series, Ink Exchange (Review HERE!), because instead of having Seth and Aislinn in it, the two characters I just couldn't get enough of in the first book in the series, Wicked Lovely; it had them playing side characters while three completely new characters were brought into the picture.
In Fragile Eternity Seth, Aislinn, and Keenan are back; as well as Donia (The Winter Queen), and Niall (who was one of the main characters in Ink Exchange, and currently the Dark Court King).
To summarize what the third book is about, I'm going to go with the Goodreads description, because if I give you my description AND what I thought about it, this post is just going to be WAY too long!

From Goodreads:
Aislinn never expected
to rule in Faerie--but that was before Keenan stole her mortality to
make her a monarch. Now she faces challenges and enticements beyond any
she'd ever dreamed of.
Seth never expected he would want to settle down with anyone--but that was before Aislinn. She is everything he's ever dreamed of, and he wants to be with her forever. Forever takes on a new meaning, though, when your girlfriend is an immortal faery queen.

Now to my thoughts:
Overall, I wouldn't call this series one of my favorites, to be honest. A lot of the characters get on my nerves SOOOOO much, that it makes it almost difficult for me to like the story.
For instance, after reading Fragile Eternity I am having a very difficult time liking Aislinn!
She is being completely selfish and unfair towards Seth! First, she's in love with Seth and she wants to be just friends with Keenan, then she loves Seth, but also can't keep her hands off Keenan! It is frustrating!
Now Keenan? OH MY GOD! I can't stand that a#@hole (please excuse the language!), but seriously?! What a JERK!!
To make matters worse, my favorite part in the entire book was this part where Aislinn goes to see Donia, to convince her to give Keenan another chance, and Donia stabs Aislinn with ice! I couldn't help thinking, "YES!"
But seriously, that part was awesome! Not because of the stabbing part though. Because of the details! Wow, I could totally picture that being in a movie version! Donia's entire house is covered entirely in ice, and the details that Melissa Marr went into to describe the setting, was amazing! I absolutely loved the part!
In fact, I think Melissa does a great job in describing the settings throughout the novel. Because Aislinn and Keenan are the Summer Queen and King, they help the flowers, plants, and wild life thrive; and their own surroundings show. Keenan's loft, has such beautiful descriptions of wild and domestic flowers growing, exotic birds flying around, the bed being held up by vines. It sounded absolutely gorgeous!
Like I said before, I am having a very difficult time liking some of the main characters! Aislinn and Keenan are so confusing! In one sense, Keenan wants to be with Donia and Aislinn with Seth, but at the same time, Keenan would be ready to leave the person he actually love, to be with Aislinn.
Throughout the book I felt so bad for Donia and Seth! JEEZ! They are being treated so unfairly! Seth leaves about half way into the book to seek out immortality, so he can be with Aislinn for eternity, and while Aislinn doesn't have a clue about where he went, she knows that Keenan loves Donia, and Donia him, but just as long as Aislinn, herself, feels happy, she doesn't care that she's hurting Donia; so she decides maybe her and Keenan are meant to be together.
Aislinn pissed me off!! I understand she is upset, and lonely. I get it! What girl hasn't had those feelings?! But seriously? The, supposedly, love of you life has taken off for a couple of months (leaving some evidence that he will be back), and you decide "ok, I guess it's time to get with Keenan, even though he's just found some happiness with Donia again". UGH!!!!!!!
Overall, the series is pretty good. Frustrating, but good. I'm interested to see where it goes in the next couple of books. I am sort of hoping that Leslie (the main character from Ink Exchange), shows up again to make another appearance. I really do like Niall, who by the way is really close friends with Seth in Fragile Eternity.
I am waiting at least a few months most likely to continue reading the series. I am going to the library where I've been getting them, the last time for this semester this Wednesday, and plan on not getting the next book, because I don't know when I'll be able to return it, and also because I do sort of want to have a break from continuing the series.
Hopefully, when my Fall semester begins in August, (SUMMER VACA!!!), I'll get the chance to continue and eventually finish the series! :)
I hop everyone is enjoying their Saturday! It's absolutely gorgeous where I live, so I am excited to soak up some rays today! :)

I've been wanting to read this series for a while. It sounds pretty good :)
ReplyDeleteIt's okay. Definitely not one of my favorites. I so enjoy it, but I am also glad I've been able to borrow them from the library, not have had to buy them. :)
