The Fault in Our Stars by John Green

Before I begin, let me just say I know I'm like the last person in the reading world to read this book...okay not literally, but it sure seems like it!!, but let me just say I've been working up my emotional level to get it started...

When reading John Green's The Fault in Our Stars the reader honestly can't help but think...Life is unfair.

Why is it that the good people always have to be the ones to go first?  And why so young?

Unfortunately, that is how life is a lot of the times.  It's scary, unpredictable, and unfair. And there's nothing we can do to change it...

The Fault in Our Stars is the story of Hazel, a 16 year old girl, who found out at the age of 13 that she has Stage IV thyroid cancer.  She's living each day, thinking it might possibly be her last, while rolling an oxygen tank cart behind at all times, to help her lungs breath.  Her mom makes her go to a Support Group, at a church near them, and that's where she meets Augustus Waters, a past cancer patient, in remission, who lost his leg due to his condition.

Before Augustus, Hazel was strolling through life, pretty much waiting for it to end.

After Augustus, Hazel has learned to live life, be happy, and to find the one thing that most people are looking for...love.

He changes her life in the most positive way imaginable.

My thoughts:

This book was amazing!  It was absolutely beautiful, but devastating.  I was bawling my eyes out during the last fifty pages.  I went through half a tissue box!  I even had to stop reading, while I was in the fifth grade class helping out, because I kept feeling my eyes well up!

This is a book I don't think I'll be able to get out of my mind for a long time.  This story opened my eyes in a way, because it made me realize once again how easy it is to lose everything in the blink of an eye.  The pain, life can give you.  Cancer is an awful thing, destroying more than just the lives it takes with it; and that's something Hazel and Augustus learn in this book.

Overall rating:

I HIGHLY recommend this book to everyone!  I honestly wouldn't be able to understand if someone didn't like this book, unless possibly that person had/does have cancer, or knows someone who does, and knows all the facts that go with it, and found out how wrong a lot of the cancer facts were in this novel (which I wouldn't know about honestly!).  This book is touching, and I will warn you it WILL MAKE YOU CRY!!

But none the less...READ it!

    1. In a way yes...but minus the whole secrecy at the beginning...and not so much preaching...but I did love "A Walk to Remember". Oh and this one, is definitely written more for the teenage genre, and it's got a couple of funny parts! :)

      READ IT!!

  3. Waaah, just reading your review makes me sad all over again! The amount of emotional trauma I went through while reading this book is phenomenal. This was my first John Green book, and dang, it was such an experience. I grew WAY too attached to the characters, like you did ! Which made the ending that much harder for me. :'( But those characters were just so real.

Fantastic review! You captured all my feelings so well. <3
