Mockingjay Movie News

Good Morning Everyone! (Or Good Afternoon, Evening...depending on where you are in the world) :)

I've just read some news about the upcoming (okay, not really upcoming...more far-away-coming) movie, Mockingjay.

According to WebProNews (Click the link for the full article):

“The Hunger Games” finale “Mockingjay” will be apparently be split into two features, continuing in the Hollywood tradition of milking popular novel adaptations for as much money as humanly possible. Sure, it may provide ravenous fans with more “Hunger Games”-related content found in the book itself, but, more than likely, it’s just Lionsgate’s way of milking as much profit from the franchise as humanly possible. Hey, it worked for “Harry Potter” and “Twilight”, so why wouldn’t in work for “The Hunger Games”? You can’t blame them for trying.
According to MTV, the first installment of “Mockingjay” will arrive into cineplexes on November 14th, 2014. The second part will find its way into darkened theaters almost a year later; the film isn’t scheduled to arrive until November 20th, 2015. In other words, you’re going to have to wait quite a while to see the epic cinematic finale to this wildly popular series. Watery-eyed fanatics, take heart: Hollywood.com is reporting that “Catching Fire”, the sequel to “The Hunger Games”, will hit theaters on November 22nd, 2013. At least that one is a little closer.

You know, honestly, I'm haven't even started thinking about Mockingjay as a movie yet. I'm still hoping Hollywood won't screw my favorite book in the series Catching Fire.  But honestly?? Is it seriously necessary for them to be splitting Mockingjay into TWO movies???

I know some of you are not Twilight Saga fans, but here's just an example:
Do you see that size difference???

I mean seriously Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows and Breaking Dawn have both over 700 pages! Mockingjay doesn't even have 400!

And I know I am probably going to get a lot of awful comments for saying this, but Mockingjay I thought was a bit slow at times.  I felt like not much happened until the end when Katniss and everyone finally actually went into the Capital.

I believe Warners Brothers did an amazing job with BOTH Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1 & Part 2, and Summit did a great job so far with Breaking Dawn Part 1 (in fact, both sets were my absolute favorite in the series), but that's partially ALSO due to the fact that HP7 & BD were BOTH my favorite books in the series! (Other than HP4).  But Mockingjay??
To be honest, I am not looking forward to what they'll be doing to make it into two movies.
Honestly, I don't think it's necessary, and just ANOTHER way for Hollywood to be milking everyone out of ten more dollars each for a movie ticket.

I'd love to hear some thoughts! :)

  1. Oh thanks for sharing! :) You're right about the size thing! Those were really long books with a lot of content! But like these guys are saying, they're making it because the other two went off well that way and for commercial purposes, of course! So.. we'll just have to see. I guess they'll add a lot more stuff that wasn't there in the book, the annoying stuff that happens :|

  2. Yeah it's all about money! It's annoying!!
And yeah they'll have to add things, which I think is a bit odd, because aren't movies usually supposed to leave things out??!!

  3. And if the next movie isn't a success there won't BE a Mockingjay. It's happened before when The Golden Compass didn't do well in the US(it did fine everywhere else), so it left off on a cliffhanger. Whoa, back up! You only pay $10 to see a movie over there?!? We have to pay an average $17 herein Australia.

    1. That is very true...however, I don't think Catching Fire will have a problem bringing in the quotes. And yeah we pay $10. AND THAT SUCKS!! $17???
