Still on My Mind #11

Still on My Mind is a weekly meme, featured on Thursday, started by Haley over at Ya-Aholic, where you discuss a book you've either recently read, or read over the past few years, that's still on your mind.

For this weeks Still On My Mind, I will probably be doing one of the biggest cliches in Young Adult literature. But you know, honestly, despite what some people think of this series, I still absolutely adore this series!

So for this week's Still On My Mind I've chosen...

Yes, yes, I know!!

But I'm sorry, even after four years I still can't get my mind off of this series! So instead of telling all of you what this book is about...which, you know, everyone should probably know by now, unless you've been living under a rock for the past four years...I'll tell you exactly why this series is still on my mind after all of these years!

I read Stephenie Meyer's The Twilight Saga back in August of 2008, my senior year of high school.  Honestly, at the time I had no idea a movie was being made, and I had no idea how big the series really was.  I had bought the book about a year earlier for a friend for her birthday, because I thought the cover looked really cool, and it reminded me of a darker version of Snow White, which was perfect because this friend sort of liked darker fairy tales.
I ended up picking this one up at a book fair my school was holding.  I started reading it that afternoon and lets just say that's when the frenzy began for me.

I finished this book in about a day, and right away became obsessed with getting my hands on the second one. It took a couple of days, and when I did I devoured that one in less than a couple of days, and while I was reading it I was at Borders one day, and saw that Breaking Dawn was a recent release Best Seller and 40% off, so I picked it up right away, knowing I would be reading it anyway, what was stupid of me, was that I didn't even think about picking up the third one right away!
I ended up finishing New Moon, and being stuck because we weren't going into the town with our nearest bookstore until the weekend...and it was ONLY TUESDAY!!!
I was going insane!

When Saturday finally rolled around, we headed to Target, and guess what?? THEY WERE SOLD OUT!!!
We ended up going to the other Target, which is just down the road in the mall, and THEY WERE SOLD OUT TOO!!!
FINALLY, I found it down the street a ways back at Barnes and Noble for full price.  But that was okay! Honestly, I didn't care at that moment! I NEEDED that book!!

To make a long story short I finished the entire series in less than two weeks.  Probably the fastest I have ever read, accept perhaps my Obsessive Reading Marathon/Binge last year!
With the exception of Meg Cabot's The Princess Diaries Series and Harry Potter, The Twilight Saga is probably one of the original reasons why I love to read!

It was during my senior year that I started not going anywhere without a book in my bag.  I went to the library religiously, and even befriended the library, who a lot of people found very intimidating, but who I found out was totally awesome and ended up helping me BIG TIME obtaining an A+ on my senior project!

I will say, I have definitely grown in my reading over the past few years.  This is embarrassing to admit, but I was looking at my walls in my room the other day, which btw are covered in Twilight things and a signed poster of Zac Efron (from Popstar! Magazine, does anyone still remember that magazine??!!) and a Hairspray movie poster, plus a huge poster of A Cinderella Story (one of my all time favorite movies!!), and realized maybe, just maybe it's time to take down some of these things...
I'm 21 now, and probably shouldn't have Twilight on my wall anymore...but then I figured I'll be moving in the next year or so into a new room, and THEN I will clean up my walls.  But then again, I believe I will definitely be keeping up my Twilight LP Vinyl collection, my A Cinderella Story poster, and my Hairspray one too!  Who cares what people think?  It's memorabilia! Those items, for all we know, could be worth a lot of money one day! (at least that's what I told myself, every time I bought something new from Twilight back in the day, lol).

So there, that's my spiel on The Twilight Saga!

And while I know some of you don't like this series, I absolutely 100% respect your opinions, but I will make one request if you don't have anything nice to say on The Romance Bookie, then please don't comment!  I don't try to ruin other people's favorite series for them, just because I didn't like them, so I'd like the same courtesy!

Thanks everyone!
The Romance Bookie :)

  1. I love this series and it's also on my mind all of the time especially when Breaking Dawn Part 2 is going to come out. I've read it like more than 5 times - each book in this series.

    Great pick! =D

  2. I read Twilight because a friend of mine recommend it to me, I was in my senior, too. but it was in 2007. I liked it and my favorite character was Jacob. My friend was in love with Edward. So we constantly kept this long conversations about them. In 2008 when I knew a movie was coming out I started to look for the next book and read it, too. I'm sorry but I don't love this series, It isn't great for me. Why? All because Breaking Dawn. **Spoliers** I was really expecting a HUGE fight after a lot of preparations and all of that stuffs, and we only got tension, suspense about it.. i was like.. "Did I just read 700 pages just for NOTHING to happen" UGH! so I was really mad when I finished reading it! LOL
Now, for the movies, I keep thinking they're better than the books. and the trailer of BD 2 it seems that there is a fight YAY! blood! =) LOL

  3. Reminded me of me. I NEVER bought books but couldn't wait for the library so I went out and bought New Moon and then kicked myself for not having bought Eclipse at the same time because I had to go out and buy Eclipse too the next day.

    1. LOL it's honestly the only series I've ever read where that happened to me! It was ridiculous! And thinking back to it, probably just a tad embarrassing, but overall I still can't help but love this series! :)
