Wings by Aprilynne Pike Review

So I've been trying to read Wings for probably about the last two years!  I started reading it two summers ago off of a friend's Nook, and got about a 1/4 way through.  I ended up buying about a year ago at Barnes and Noble, so I could eventually finish it!

Well I've FINALLY finished it!!

My Thoughts:

While that description may be short, it is also the perfect way to describe this book!
Aprilynne Pike has an Imagination! An absolute beautiful one!  The description of the wings was gorgeous!  My mom, who actually read this one before me, imagined it as a sort of Avatar (the James Cameron movie) feel.  You know those bright colors that are in the world of Avatar? That's how my mom imagined the petals growing on Laurel's back!  

 The story idea was very interesting, because Aprilynne took all the myths of being a fairy and turned them into her own ideas.  She reimagined a mythical world, into something so real!

 I do have one complaint...the love triangle...
So, honestly, I'm getting a bit tired of these.
While Wings was originally published in 2009, in the midst of the Twilight Saga fandom; it brought to life the sort of cliche love triangle that every author seemed to feel obliged to write about during that time.  All in all, I'm curious to see who she will choose...David, the Human? Or Tamlin, the Faerie?  But sometimes I wonder why there has be a love triangle, why can't it just be one?

 So aside from the love triangle, I really liked this one!  The world of Aprilynne's faeries was gorgeous and her descriptive words were captivating!  Overall, I'm very much looking forward to continue reading this series! :)

I recommend this one to fans of faeries and fantasy novels!  This is a YA novel, so it's perfect for ages 13 and up!  I would definitely recommend it to Twilight fans, like myself! :)

    I have Destined, but I still haven't read Wings. It sounds great, though! I think I'll definitely have to pick it up soon, but I'm also not too much of a fan of a love triangles. Amazing review :)

The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick

I saw the movie Hugo (directed by Martin Scorsese) right before the New Year.  Let me back track, and let you know that usually I am NOT a fan of Oscar movies.  If I'm being honest, I find them to be boring.  However, this year has seemed to bring quite a few more exceptions than normal.  Among those are: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 , The Help , and Hugo.   I fell in love with Hugo .  I thought it so beautifully done.  The music, the characters, the story.  I found myself crying even at points that wouldn't necessarily make you cry.  I honestly, didn't know the movie was based on a book; but when I found out at the end, I knew I had to read it. The winner of the Children's Caldecott Award, The Invention of Hugo Cabret by Brian Selznick is nothing like anything I've ever read.  Normally, when I read I imagine the story that I am reading  unfolding in my head like a movie; but with The Invention of Hugo Cabret I didn't have to imagine.  T
