Knee Deep Blog Tour 6/8

So today I'm a part of the Knee Deep Blog Tour!  I am so excited because I absolutely LOVED this book! This is the second book I've read by Jolene B. Perry, and OMG I was 100% NOT disappointed! She is one of the best indie authors I've read books from so far!

Knee Deep was a bit different then Night Sky, which I read back in April.  This book involved the pain of love, and how people you love sometimes don't turn out to be the people you thought they were.

Ronnie has been together with Shawn, the love of her life...her forever...since they were both fourteen.  When they were fifteen he moved away, but they still were able to make the long distance work, and when he moved back two years later, Ronnie thought they were stronger then ever.
Slowly, as the months have gone by, Ronnie can't help but notice that Shawn is stressed, and dealing with a lot of things at home, including a very angry father.  All she wants to do is help him, but when she tries to, he grabs her wrist so hard it leaves bruising, and makes it difficult to even put her backpack on.  It was a mistake though, he's just stressed; at least that's what Ronnie tells herself.
But things only seem to get worse.  One day Shawn is the guy that Ronnie fell in love with, and the next he's that guy she's never seen before.
When her really good friend, Luke, sees the bruising, he gets upset.  Shawn is his best friend, but he makes it clear very fast that Ronnie is more important.
Ronnie, whose been really close to Luke, and known him as long as she's known Shawn, gets the lead in the school play playing Juliet, while Luke gets the part of Romeo, in the school's production of...Romeo and Juliet.  Ronnie gets confused and can't determine whether it's just her character falling for Romeo, or is it Ronnie falling for Romeo or even Luke??

She is so confused...Shawn is mad at her all the time, and she can't help but feel that she's only making matters worse for him...

Will Shawn turn back into the guy she fell in love with, and stay that way?  What is it that she's seeing differently about Luke?

This book really got to me...for one, because I believe in a way it really changed my views on people in abusive relationships.  I have always been one of those people who thinks to myself and thinks, "Ok, if I guy hits me or touches me wrong, even once, I'm out and never talking or seeing that guy again! I do not care if he apologizes, and says he will change! I am not taking that chance!"  However, like with everything in life, there are exceptions.  In Knee Deep in a way I got why Ronnie stuck around for as long as she did, because Shawn was her everything.  He loved her, she loved him, they were planning their future together, and it had been that way since they were both fourteen!  He hadn't always been that way, and was having a hard time at home.  However, I guess I see why Ronnie, in a way, let it slide the first time, however, if I were her I would like to think I wouldn't have stuck around the second time.

Shawn abused Ronnie both mentally and physically.  He brought her down to the point where she blamed herself for everything, and it stuck with her.  Every second I was reading Knee Deep I just wanted to punch Shawn! I just don't understand how someone can be like that! It amazes me everyday how horrible people can be!  It saddens me!

I absolutely enjoyed this book.  It was so deep, and I really felt Jolene did an amazing job portraying the character's struggle just by being able to hear her thoughts and what she told people.  It was heart wrenching, and in the end made even cry a little, because I was hurting so much for Ronnie.

Overall rating:

I 100% recommend this novel! And I hope everyone gets a chance to read it one day! :)
